A walk up song, or 'hitting march' in Japanese, is a special song used as a cheer when each player is at bat. The song is different for each batter, and can be thought of as that player's 'theme'. Songs are generally assigned to players and not chosen themselves, and are often played by brass bands in the stands, by the fans.
