Commons:

- Info No FPs of landscapes near the Tanana River. Poco nominated a panorama format version of this picture in 2018; it didn't pick up any oppose votes but failed on quorum, 5/0/0. Anyway, I think the narrower crop of this one is a better and more satisfying composition, and the image quality seems fine for a 36 megapixel photo. I find the misty and stormy atmosphere impressive. created by Poco a poco – uploaded by Poco a poco – nominated by Cmao20 -- Cmao20 (talk) 23:09, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

- Weak oppose Looking at the current FPs of this species I believe that we have already better images of this beautiful but common bird than this one: in terms of detail (here), compo (here) or with an addional element (like food, here). But also, this one of yours is much better, more detail, we see the tail and the bokeh is nice and clean. I came to the conclusion that this image is not one of our finest, sorry. Poco a poco (talk) 22:50, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your review but a featured picture is not about being the best out of all featured pictures, it's about being one amongst the finest out of all images from Wikimedia commons. And if you have a look at the pictures from the 6 countries it was photographed, I think it's one amongst them.
- Also comparing it to the images you linked:
- - I personally prefer this one over the one with the flat blue background as such backgrounds are common, boring and easy to get with bird photography in my opinion. The background from this current candidate gives more context about the bird's environment while also allowing to deliver smooth bokeh on the background, giving an element of depth to the picture which I prefer over flat single color;
- - regarding the picture with the food it's interesting but that picture has a lot of noise, the whites are overexposed, there are chromatic aberrations and the shadows are too harsh so I think this candidate is better in my opinion;
- - this one is a side view while the present candidate is a frontal view which I think is interesting to give a nice different perspective;
- - finally this one is very nice but also noisy and with whites a bit overexposed.
- Moreover I like the present candidate because I like the bird's posture, the soft colors, smooth bokeh and good quality. So I honestly think the present candidate is of FP level -- Giles Laurent (talk) 23:17, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- Weak support Because of the chaos in the background. --Rbrechko (talk) 00:32, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Support Yes we have several FPs of this bird, however the colors of the plumage are really exceptional. Concerning the background, my personal taste is for a smooth bokeh (thus I understand and share Rbrechko's concern about the "chaos" behind). Still I find this picture FP-level due to the angle of view and excellent sharpness. The light is also compelling. I don't know if it's "the best of all FPs" but it's a FP in my view -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:41, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

- Sorry, but I disagree with your proposed change. Princess Elizabeth may have been 7 years old, but she wasn't just a child... she was the grandchild to king George V (and later became queen). She was important enough to be in category "paintings", even if Edward VIII had never abdicated and Elizabeth had never become a queen. Category "children" makes me think of a bunch of unknown kids. Also, the painting of 9 year old Romaine Lacaux, and Oval portrait miniature of girl oil painting by Valentine Manchon Duchesne is in category "paintings". So... I change the category back, and hope you are OK with that... :-) --Zquid (talk) 06:29, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

- Info This retouched version is broken. If you open both this and the original and switch between them a few times it's easy to see the problem: Perry's face is scaled down here (which itself might violate COM:BLP), leaving behind misalignment artifacts, most noticeably in the top left and top right of her hair where it meets the background. Additionally, her ear and chin aren't scaled down with the face, making them appear proportionally larger (for some reason, part of the earring is scaled, leaving it warped).
I'll be more than happy to abandon this in favor of a "delist and replace" if someone uploads a similar retouched version that doesn't have technical issues (I've asked the original editor if he could upload a corrected version but was denied). - Info There is already another FP of the Basilic but this is a vertical panorama with a very different angle not frequently exploited, which takes in the staircase on the right that leads towards the top. In the foreground, more shots were necessary in order to select the smallest number of people in the frame, together with scattered objects such as backpacks, water bottles and any other stuff removed. In fact, the grassy meadow on the left free and the empty staircase depicted are impossible to find at any time, even and especially on evenings and nights. - Comment Focus stacking issue on the yellow leaf (image note added) and other places, for example at the lower right corner -- Basile Morin (talk) 03:53, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment. But sorry, I don't see any mistakes in the yellow half-decayed leaf. The further away the leaf is from the camera (so behind the mushroom) the leaf fades. That was also the intention. I took the first photo of the rear tip of the mushroom and then further forward so that the entire mushroom (so the object) was sharp. I think that worked out well.--Famberhorst (talk) 06:19, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Weak oppose Sorry but the top of that leaf is in focus, while the bottom is blurry, all around the mushroom. You might have a frame in your batch with that leaf in focus. Then please, fix the issue on a software. Best regards -- -- Basile Morin (talk) 07:34, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have 146 photos each with a space of half a millimeter between them of the mushroom. There is no sharp leaf that you mean in between. That is not possible because that part of the leaf is behind the mushroom. Only the forward curled ends of the leaf were captured by the camera at f/5.6.--Famberhorst (talk) 16:41, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose Per Basile, the sudden transition in the yellow leaf seems indeed like a focus stacking issue (note how the transition to the brown leaf in the backgorund is less abrupt, despite it being further away). I think we already discussed this issue in one of your previous nominations, it can be fixed by combining a method B and a method C output. This technique can also sort out the other stacking issues (e.g., around the stem in the foreground). --Julesvernex2 (talk) 10:07, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose No, definitely not with that problem of perspective, which gives the impression that all the buildings are collapsing, while in fact there is only one in the center. But believe it or not, I was working on a derivative version of this file on my computer to propose a "delist and replace" nomination on en-Wikipedia. In addition to this major problem of perspective, the sky is horribly dotted with many dust spots. The resolution is not great and I'm not sure that, even with these corrections, it can become a FP on Commons. Still, I'm going to upload another version soon, so you can compare. To finish, I'm not sure the file name, that translates into "04.03 The Vice President went to Hualien to learn about the disaster situation and rescue progress - 53629407644" really describes the image. I don't think the Vice President is a fireman :-) Best regards -- Basile Morin (talk) 11:31, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose this version but would support Basile's version. The perspective problems in this one are the killer. If you're illustrating a collapsing building you really need to aim for realism.
