— Amihan to Malaya about killing other people.[1] |
Amihan was an airbending scout of the isolationistic Lambak Clan during the 1st century BG. An experienced killer, she embraced her covert role to murder any outside intruders on her home island to keep her clan safe from threats. As a result of her ruthlessness, she was a trusted agent of clan chief Ulo.
When several groups of foreigners landed on Lambak Island in 66 BG, Amihan happily fought against them as well as her former comrade Malaya, a local scout who opposed Ulo. In the process, the airbender also became a major enemy of Avatar Roku and Gyatso who were among the foreign intruders. Ultimately, the airbender was defeated by Malaya and Gyatso, but managed to escape.
History[]
Early life[]
Amihan was born into the Lambak Clan,[2] an ancient community that lived on an isolated Fire Island, later dubbed "Lambak Island". Predating the four nations, the clan had traditionally consisted of nonbenders and benders of every element.[4][5] However, Amihan was the last clan member known to possess the power over air. She eventually became a member of the clan's scouts, an elite group that was supposed to patrol the island to keep their community safe.[6] At one point, Amihan also tamed a gorilla-tarsier as companion and mount.[3]
In her role as a scout, Amihan spent much time in isolation in the wilderness. This may have had a detrimental impact on her mental state and contributed to her sadistic tendencies.[2] She eventually became the clan's veteran scout. As a result of her ruthlessness, Ulo relied on her to carry out the more secretive scout missions, namely those designed to kill any outside intruders to protect the Lambak Clan's isolation as well as "Yungib".[2][3] Over the years, she murdered several people on her chief's command.[7] After Malaya also became a scout, she would occasionally work with the airbender, but the two never developed a good relationship due to their different personalities.[2] At one point, Amihan wanred Ulo that Malaya would never be reliable as a scout due to her curiosity, but the chief dismissed her warnings at the time.[7]
First ambush of the Western Kingdom Trading Company expedition[]
In 66 BG, a small group of Western Kingdom Trading Company researchers and mercenaries landed on Lambak Island. Amihan and Malaya started to observe them, and Ulo eventually instructed the younger scout to remove the foreigners. Unaware of the scouts' true role, Malaya subsequently worked out a plan to make the outsiders leave by stealing their supplies. Upon revealing her plan to Amihan, the airbender opted not to reveal that Ulo had already decided to kill the foreigners, instead seemingly going along with the nonbending scout's plan.[3]
The older woman created a thick fog, yet chose to dispel it once Malaya was within reach of the foreigners' supplies and thus forced her to flee from the company guards. Meanwhile, the airbender attacked an isolated mercenary, and seemingly killed him. After the failed sabotage attempt, the two women reunited, with Amihan laughing at Malaya's discomfort. Once the younger scout began to point out her distress and the trouble to get the foreigners to leave after they had seen her, Amihan casually mentioned that Lambak scout always had to kill outsiders as they never voluntarily left. When Malaya expressed disbelief, Amihan challenged her to ask Ulo about the matter, and the nonbender left to do so.[3]
Personality[]
Amihan was a cruel and even psychopathic person who felt no remorse over killing.[2][3] She tormented and killed both animals as well as foreign people just to test her airbending powers,[2][3] and treated murder as a casual occurrence.[3] According to Malaya, the airbender had a "twisted sense of humor",[2] considering it amusing when she toyed with her opponents before killing them or exposed her allies to mortal danger.[3]
Abilities[]
As her clan's veteran scout, Amihan was an experienced warrior.[2] She was a fairly powerful airbender, capable of creating a thick fog over an extended area as well as a powerful wind blast which could throw several people off a mountain path.[3]
