A look back at shiny things that caught my attention!

This post is looooong, after reading a few blogs that 'looked back at 2009' I liked the idea and so I thought I would do the same thing with some of my creations from this past year. So here goes...
This piece is very special to me, first of all, I made this with my sister for a donation to an auction for their local hospital, and especially because we used my moms prom picture to alter. This is the third year we've created a piece to donate and the theme is always Paris. we named this one love notes from Paris. I think she looks beautiful and a little like Judy Garland. This was during the summer and I "borrowed" an army guy from Max to finish it off, I think I used almost all of my clocks during the summer... I really need to find more!

For Max and Hannahs teachers. Maxs' teacher loves bling, she got a big kick out of wearing it all day and waving like royalty to her subjects!

We put this girl out for all of our birthdays, I love that the candles are still in the box!

A sweet little lamb that was rescued to become art.

I used to make these shelf sitters alot when I sold primitives at the craft shows. I still like to put one together now and then to see their personalities evolve! I think she looks like a french witch!

Sorry this ones a little blurry, I have a hard time telling if they are with those little thumbnail views. Oh to have the eyesight I had in my 20s... This girls head had broken off of the halloween ornie that she was but being someone who cannot throw anything away he became a little assemblage instead. She looks better with her poultry seasoning body I think!

O.k. she scares most of my kids and if she doesn't scare them she makes them worry about their mom a little! I love her though, and had fun making her.

This scares them a little too, because none of my kids like clowns but when I found these little Italian clowns I just had to have them for a project. I really don't think they're that scary:)

Love this pumpkin king! He has the best dapper pumpkin face don't cha think?

Back to my sewing roots here!

A couple of wax collages, I've said it before on here but if you haven't tried wax collage you really should, it's very freeing and relaxing.

This class photo has my mom and 3 of her cousins in it from the days of the one room school house they attended. She is the girl next to the teacher, I love old school pictures even if I don't know anyone in them!Another crown.

This lady is one of my favorite pictures to use, I know she isn't smiling but I like to imagine that she was a lot of fun anyway!

I did the domino thing for a while, and then something else shiny caught my attention!

Birds with hats!

sorry blurry again!

I want to be the girl with the crown!

This is my hubby and I on our wedding day, this was his anniversary present from me. do you think he thought 23 years and I got a dunce cap and a bird???? :)

This star is pretty big and now hangs in the hallway. It took almost a whole jar of glitter to cover it! Gotta have the glitter!!!

When I found this canoe my mind went crazy with the possibilities!

Another piece my family can't really wrap their heads around! Ofcourse she has a bird under her wire dress! whats to understand?

I did a lot of needle felting and then ya know...something shiney...

A cloche made out of a candle votive.

She just screamed naughty librarian to me, so I just couldn't help myself!

Every winter I start crocheting something, I learned how when I was about 10 and in 4-h I don't know how to read a pattern though so I pretty much am confined to scarves and now these flowers. one day I may put more thought into it but for now I just do it to keep my hands busy while I watch t.v. or am too tired to do anything else.

Latest obsession is remaking necklaces with these flowers ( see previous post for blog that gave the tutorial) this one was for a friend for Christmas...

along with this purse, another latest obsession!

O.k. there you have it, all the evidence you need to see that when it comes to creating something, anything I have to try just about everything! I get bored really easy and am quite sure that if it was ever checked they would find that I have a.d.d. of the crafty persuasion! I know others with this disorder ( you know who you are) and if anything shiny catches our attention-which it most certainly will, well all bets are off on what we'll be creating next!
Happy New Year! May it be full of possibilities for all of you! ~ Theresa xoxo

That took waaaaay longer than I thought it would but the plus side is I haven't fallen asleep before midnight ( I think I can make it now!) like all of my kids thought I would! Our new years are notoriously boring... after a couple of board games we watch movies and try to stay awake. Man I feel old just rereading that! unfortunately it's true. oh well.

On the hunt...

I started this blog thinking that I would only talk about decorating, crafting, etsy, garage sailing...
that kind of stuff, you know those passions of mine that not everyone close to me understands. I wasn't going to make it a blog about my family, and that still holds true but sometimes someone in our little group does something that I think you need to know about. Meet Max. He's the little guy in the red scarf and mismatched gloves (it doesn't matter mom. really.) He drew a map of our area of the neighborhood for him and his best friend to explore. My hubby and I were getting ready to leave for our walk when I heard him explaining the map and it was so adorable I had to run and get the camera. They actually do this kind of thing quite often and make maps to play whatever game they are playing! too cute!
I had Max when I was 41 and let me tell you, I was scared and called my mom who had her 12th child at 40 yep you read that right 12th!!! She said not to worry and that having Max around as we get older will be the best thing for us! Well we have a ways to go before are OLD ya know! but Max brings so much laughter and joy to all of us that I kind of relive my older childrens childhood through him now. If I could have kept them all this size I would. (only because we would still all be together right here at 612 24/7.)
Stay tuned for more craftiness tomorrow, I've been busy over the last few days... new stuff in the etsy stores and more to come! ~ Theresa xoxo

After Christmas Craftiness!

Oh sure it's starts out as an innocent flower for some dollar store gloves... Then we need to make yet another bag, with a flower ofcourse! My daughter and I worked as a team to create this bag-made out of a pleated skirt and lined with really cool peacock toile fabric- for a friend of hers. This is the second one we've made so thankfully it didn't take hours and hours like the first one did! no kidding.
Then today she came over and we made this necklace for a different friend! There is a wonderful tutorial on how to make these flowers on www.hello-refabulous.blogspot.com under flower hair bobbies on her side bar. Super easy! no kidding.

So that is how it's been going over here @ 612. How has your post-Christmas been?

Vintage Christmas Monday!

Thank you Joan for such a fun party! Here are a few groupings of some of my favorite vintage ornaments with a few 'extras' thrown in... This gigantic framed chalkboard hangs in our dining room and covers the wall! I found the frame at a garage sale and except painting the chalkboard I left it in all of it's chippy glory. Joyeux Noel to you.
I put this flocked tree in an old light fixture and it hangs on the bathroom door.
I looooove old ornies don't you? guess what... I found the faux snow from Pottery Barn (unopened) at the G.W.!!! gotta love it!

ewww this pic got a little blurry, sorry.

The ornaments are nestled on a brown transferware platter, in the center is one of my favorite vases full of greens and topped with a tree topper from Seasons of Cannon Falls. (G.W. again!) behind it you can see our collection of snowmen.

I love the faded blue ones the best and the bells...don't get me started!

My little grouping on an old platter, I don't think I've talked about my OBSESSION with platters have I ? That's definitely a future post, I just feel I must rescue them all I swear! The candle in the middle is just a dollar store plain candle (found by the religious candles) wrapped in script paper and adorned with a paper rosette. and old earring.

This one hangs in our tree, I just love the clear ones and that this one hangs from a piece of old string.

Sorry, another blurry picture but I wanted to show the crown on this one!

Last but not least is this little elf sitting on a pine cone. He's made with pipe cleaners and beads and has the sweetest face. He doesn't actually hang in the tree and is sitting on a branch for the pic. Have a wonderful Monday and go check out all of the other participants in the party by clicking on the VCM button at the top of my blog! ~ Theresa xoxo

Time to get crafty!

This is the extent of my craftiness this past week. I love decorating but I haven't MADE anything all week and am going through creative withdrawals!
Our date of shopping and going out to dinner was so nice. We hit many stores and got alot accomplished but the best part was being together and coming up with ideas together. Really we always say it after we go out that we don't do this enough so when we have time alone it is wonderful no matter what we are doing. We have a really big date coming up... my hubby turns 50 on Jan. 1 and we are going to see Transiberian Orchestra on the 2nd! He gave me tickets last year for Christmas and we loved it! So this year he's getting them for his b-day. I walked into his office this past week and he was listening to them and then last night he said he's been listening for almost 2 weeks straight. the man has to see this show again! It should be a wonderful date, I really look forward to that.
Our oldest daughter called last night to ask what I was doing today, no set plans after church so she is coming over to get crafty and make a couple of Christmas presents! Sounds like a fabulous day ahead for me! I hope yours is fab too! Happy Sunday ~ Theresa xoxo

Shop til you Drop!!

Heading out the back door to jump in the sleigh and get some major shopping done!! Wish us luck 'santa' and I are going shopping together and we RARELY do that because we shop entirely different from eachother. I like to see everything and he likes to put his blinders on and only find what he ventured into the store for. boring. no surprises. no clapping excitedly when you find something unexpected. well not for him anyway! Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that we are going together because we don't go on dates much and so this is a date to us, well do lunch and actually have an uninterrupted conversation! Plus it's hard to shop alone all of the time- no one to oooh and aaah over things with me! I hope you have a wonderful Saturday full of opportunities to ooooh and aaaah! ~ Theresa xoxo
