Module 3: ACTIVITY 1
(For the trainees)
Sabrina: Hi, Pat. I have a few questions to ask you. Is that alright? It will only take about less
than 10 mins of your time.
Trainee: Hi, Sab! Sure, no problem.
Sabrina: Okay so first question is, where are you in your life right now and how did you get
here?
Trainee: Life is a journey and everyone has been through a lot. I can say that I am currently
satisfied with my life right now. The lord has bestowed me with a bunch of blessings. I
have everything i need including my family and a healthy lifestyle.
Sabrina: Next question. What do you like about your body and what do you not like about it?
Trainee: I am proud to say that I am happy with my figure. I believe that i am fit and excellent in
health. I prefer to think positively all the time and i dont mind hearing what other people
think otherwise. Im not bothered about anything about my body.
Sabrina: Proud of you! Okay so next question. What is it about your body and mind that you are
unhappy with that could be positively affected by exercising regularly?
Trainee: I dislike how lazy i get sometimes which drives me to discontinue exercising on a
regular basis. This might possibly be the result of how exhausted i get from the amount
of work i get from school. Although there are instances where i am able to exercise on
a regular basis. It just depends on my schedule.
Sabrina: So, what would you like to change if anything and why?
Trainee: I wouldnt want to change anything but i would gladly maintain what i have right now.
Sabrina: thats nice. So, what is going on in your life that would facilitate behavior change?
Inhibit it?
Trainee: Slouching. I would like to change the fact that i keep slouching, as it leads to back
aches. To inhibit this, i must discipline myself by sitting back straight and doing some
stretches or yoga to relieve the pain.
Sabrina: Good decision making right there. Next question, Where are you now in your physical
level?
Trainee: I can say that my physical level is kind of low. I am not really active right now. I workout
from time to time but I wouldnt say that i am very engaged in physical activity at the
moment.
Sabrina: So, have you tried regular exercise before and failed to stick with it?
Trainee: Yes, Ive attempted to exercise regularly before and i wat able to stick with it. The
reason for this was that when my monthly period arrives, I usually stop and then I
resume right after, but then as soon as my cycle finishes, sometimes i forget to do so.
And as a result, i was never able to continue.
Sabrina: Currently, what do you estimate your potential to stick with an exercise program to be?
Trainee: So, I'll construct a plan to assess my ability to stick with a fitness regimen. I’ll set an
alarm to be attentive and to ensure that i finish the program. All i really need is time
management.
Sabrina: What unmet personal needs are you thinking of attempting to meet?
Trainee: So, definitely being able to exercise everyday. I would like to be more fit and gain some
strength.
Sabrina: Are you ready to try it? Would you really like to change even if it means giving up
something you are accustomed to?
Trainee: Yes, I am absolutely ready and would like to change for the better.
Sabrina: Do you think you can mobilize your mental strength if that is what i want or need to do
without doubt?
Trainee: Umm, I need to mobilize al the things I need to accomplish on a daily basis in order to
complete all of the work and avoid missing a deadline.
Sabrina: What has your previous experience with personal health behavior change been?
Good? Bad?some success? None? Will that help you this time around?
Trainee: It was good. To be sure, I went for walks and did some light exercises. These will assist
me this time since i’ve realized that performing them on a daily basis will hep me live a
healthier lifestyle especially that im asthmatic.
Sabrina: What can you learn from experience that will help this time? Are you being realistic
about this?
Trainee: In my prior experience, I never handled my time effectively. In terms of my physical
health, and so, I realized that managing my time for my health is critical and im being
practical abouth this because I too want to see improvement as I begin to manage my
time wisely.
Sabrina: For you, what is your self-image?
Trainee: I’d say im decent, talented, and kind of lazy at times but always get the job done.
Sabrina: Do you think of yourself as good looking? Attractive? Not attractive? Healthy?
unhealthy?
Trainee: I would say I am decent in the sense of being neat and healthy at the same time
Sabrina: What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Trainee: I see a strong woman who is willing to work harder to attain her life goals.
Sabrina: What kinds of feelings do those images elicit?
Trainee: umm, well, satisfaction and excitement.
Sabrina: Okay, next question, are you planning to exercise to help in weight loss or simply to
change up a current out of shape body? Will you be able to use the facts that smaller
size clothing now fits and that your waist is getting smaller as measures of success
rather than scale weight?
Trainee: Yes, i believe it is a measure of success to be able to fit into smaller sized clothing that
previously did not fit but now do because compared to scale weight, when you use a
scale weight, one may not notice any improvements, for some exercises may cause
muscle development which leads to gaining weight. You cant notice how fit one has
gotten by just looking at a person or measuring through a scale weight.
Sabrina: Okay, so this will be the last question for the interview. If youre going to exercise
primarily for weight loss, is your true goal to become really thin rather that somewhat
thinner?
Trainee: My goal isnt to become really thin. My goal is to just a bit thinner. Although my main
goal is to be more in shape, firm, and to be stronger.
Sabrina: THank you so much, Pat! Really appreciate the time!
Trainee: No problem! Thanks for having me!
