This document outlines a lesson plan on speech writing that includes 8 sections: objectives, subject matter, procedures, evaluation, generalization, and assignment. The lesson plan aims to teach students the components and processes of speech writing, including outlining, and apply these skills by writing speeches. Students will work in groups to arrange paragraphs into introductions, bodies, and conclusions. They will then individually create an outline and write a complete speech for homework. The overall goal is for students to understand and demonstrate speech writing skills for academic and real-world use.

A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Speech Writing

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. differentiate the components of speech writing process;
b. write an outline;
c. apply the speech writing process in real life situations;
c. perform an individual speech; and
d. appreciate the importance of speech writing in academic and real life situations.

II. Subject Matter

1. Topic: Speech Writing
2. Materials: Laptop, TV, textbook, worksheet, board and chalk.
3. References: Oral Communication, pg. 60-76.

III. Procedure
1. Routines
a. Prayer
- Class, let’s pray. Prayer leader, kindly lead the prayer.

b. Checking of classroom condition

- Good morning, class! Please arrange your chairs and pick up the pieces of
paper under your desks or within your vicinity.

c. Checking of attendance
- Are there absentees for today?
- How many and who are they?

2. Review

Last meeting, you begin discussing the components of speech writing process. But before
we continue on the processes of speech writing, can someone tell me what are the components
that we’ve already discussed?

Can someone give one general purpose of writing and explain it.
Can you please tell me what is the importance of the components of speech writing
process in writing and delivering a speech?

3. Motivation
- Our activity is called, the object of my affection. What I want you to do is
that, I want you to get any object that represents you as a person. It could
be a pen, notebook, pencil etc. You will present it in front of the class and
tell something about it. You have 2 minutes to share your presentation.
And when you’re done, you will call someone from your classmates to be
the next presenter. So, the ideas to kick-start your imagination, you can
start it with by saying, this {insert the name of the object} saved my life, or
whenever I see a {insert the name of the object}, it reminds me of the time
when…

4. Motive Questions
1. What did you notice about your classmates’ presentation?
2. Does he or she has an introduction in her presentation? How did
he/she start his/her presentation?
3. How did your classmate end his/her presentation?

5. Lesson Proper

Now that you’re able to know the other components of speech writing process, let’s now
continue our discussion in the different processes of speech writing.

We will start with the outline. I have here jumbled paragraphs and what I want you to do
is that, arrange the paragraphs into their correct formation. You will be divided into 2 groups and
I will give you the cut-out paragraph to be arranged. And when you’re done arranging it, I have
an organizer and you will post it on the board whether the paragraph belongs to introduction,
body or conclusion. Each group will have 10 minutes to arrange and choose a representative to
present their answer.

After arranging the paragraph, what strategy did you use? What made you think that it is
the introduction, body and conclusion? (The teacher will furthermore discuss about the
components of speech writing process and how to make an outline.)

6. Evaluation
Now that you know on how to make an outline, for your evaluation,
choose any topic that you want to talk about. And you will make an
outline of it. You will answer it on the provided worksheet and you have
20 minutes to answer.

7. Generalization

For your generalization, I have a question. If you relate the introduction, body or
conclusion in real life, what are you?

Are you an introduction that always focuses on a new beginning? Or are you the body
that always wants to elaborate or explain yourself more for the others to understand you? Or are
you an ending that always want to finish what you’ve started. Or something like, finishing your
goals in life.

8. Assignment
- For your assignment, write a complete speech based on the outline you
made. Make sure to apply all the components in speech writing process.
