Production[]
The film was announced on June 13, 2025, during the Annecy Animation Festival, with Enrico Casarosa set to direct.[4]
Release[]
The film was originally scheduled for release on June 18, 2027, but was rescheduled to March 5, 2027 to prevent competition with movies releasing in summer, such as Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Shrek 5.[1]
Trivia[]
- This is the fourth Pixar film to be released in March, after Onward, Turning Red, and Hoppers.
- This is the second Pixar film to be pushed to an earlier date, after Incredibles 2. However, unlike Incredibles 2, Gatto still kept its year.
- This will be the seventh Pixar film not to take place in the United States, after Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, Brave, Coco, Luca, and Turning Red.
- Gatto means "cat" in Italian. The word is also translated in Spanish and Portuguese as "gato", spelled with a single "t" in those languages.
