Boy Kavalier (also known as the Boy Genius) is a character who appears in the Hulu science fiction horror television series Alien: Earth. He is the young trillionaire founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation.
Background[]
Boy Kavalier created Prodigy Corporation as a child, which rapidly expanded over a few years to take on some of the world's other major companies. He helped create the Hybrid program, whereby human consciousnesses could be transferred into artificial bodies. The program began with terminally ill children volunteering to be test subjects. Marcy was the first volunteer, now known as Wendy, in her adult form.
Personality[]
Boy Kavalier is a boy genius, self-confident, and an egoistical manchild and believes he owns everything and everyone. He runs both the company and his life with the brashness of someone who has never known consequences, not because reactions do not exist in his world, but because he is always twenty steps ahead of everyone else, rendering reaction and consequence moot by the time they arrive.
Boy never wears shoes, and has an interest in Disney's Peter Pan, naming the Hybrids after characters in that film. He even named his research island facility Neverland.
Role in the series[]
In 2120, the USCSS Maginot ship crashes into Prodigy City, Earth after returning from a sixty-five-year voyage. Prodigy Corporation immediately dispatches a team to rescue survivors and investigate the crash. As Eins, Kavalier, Arthur, Dame Sylvia, and Kirsh watch Wendy watch her brother on a monitor, Kavalier is surprised to learn that Wendy is able to rewrite a robot's code to say what she wants. Eins tells Kavalier about the crash. When Eins asks about the cargo, Kavalier says that it is theirs now. Eins tells Kavalier that Yutani will not like that. Wendy and Kirsh interrupt them. Wendy convinces Boy Kavalier to send the Hybrids, along with Kirsh, into the Maginot.[1]
Yutani contacts Boy Kavalier and offers compensation for the damage the crash has caused. Yutani requests permission to send her own team in to secure the ship and remove its cargo. Boy Kavalier declines, saying the tower is still too unstable. Kavalier reminds Yutani that any incursion into Prodigy territory will be seen as a hostile act.[2]
Trivia[]
- Boy Kavalier is presented as a villainous Peter Pan figure. He embodies the dark, selfish aspects of the Peter Pan archetype, taking on the role of a charismatic but ultimately destructive leader of a group of children, much like Peter Pan in J.M. Barrie's story. His "Neverland" is a facility where terminally ill children are given synthetic bodies to prevent them from growing up, highlighting a twisted, controlling nature.
- According to Kirsh, Boy Kavalier suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as he frequently makes sudden outbursts.
