The Met's catalogue card for another of the paintings - ''Woman Reading'' by Jean Honore Baptiste Fragonard - shows the painting was owned by a French collector during the war years, then sold to Rene Fribourg, a European collector, who donated the painting to the Met in 1953. (English)
