Deadly Flooding, Tornadoes Strike the Midwest, Ohio Valley (PHOTOS)

Here are the latest photos from this deadly weather event.

Cars were crushed, roofs ripped off buildings and at least five people were killed in a three-day tornado outbreak across the South.

Monday's worst severe weather occurred mostly in Texas and Oklahoma. At least 20 tornadoes were reported in those two states, several of which left widespread structural damage. In Grayson County, Texas, one woman was killed by a tornado in the Sherwood Shores community Monday.

Tuesday night in the New Orleans metro area, a large tornado left severe damage in the Arabi community, as well as the Lower 9th Ward. At least one person died in that tornado, and search and rescue efforts stretched well into the night.

Three more deaths were confirmed in flooding triggered by the storm system in Alabama Tuesday.

The city of Redding, California, has released drone footage taken from above the charred aftermath of the Carr Fire, which burned hundreds of homes and killed at least eight people in the city of 90,000.\\r\\n\\r\\n
The above aerial photos show burned forests and destroyed homes after the aggressive wildfire moved through residential areas. In some cases, homeowners fled with just minutes to spare as fire crews abandoned firefighting duties to help get residents out of the fire's path.\\r\\n\\r\\n

Some of these images also show just how hard firefighters had to work to keep homes from burning. In many cases, they lost the battle, but they were able to salvage countless homes using tactics that pushed the flames into uninhabited areas and away from dwellings.\\r\\n\\r\\n
As of Saturday, the Carr Fire had burned more than 290 square miles \u2013 an area larger than the city of Chicago \u2013 and was 55 percent California's Carr Fire has been burning for over a week and is now the sixth most destructive wildfire in the state's history. The fire, which has killed six people and destroyed more than 1,000 homes, is currently burning on the west side of Redding, about 150 miles north of Sacramento.\\r\\n\\r\\n
More than 35,000 residents have been displaced as the fire has burned through 196 square miles, an area larger than Colorado Springs.\\r\\n\\r\\n

The Carr Fire is the largest of at least 17 major infernos that have burned throughout California in recent weeks, NPR reported.\\r\\n\\r\\n
The fire was so large and so hot last Friday it created its own weather, in the form of a giant, damaging fire whirl.\\r\\n\\r\\n
\\\"The most intense wildfires can create fire whirls near their edge, basically like a dust devil, but of intensely-heated, rising air consolidating rotation like a spinning skater bringing in its arms,\\\" weather.com senior digital meteorologist Jonathan Erdman explained.\\r\\n\\r\\n
While fire whirls can have strong enough winds to uproot trees, Erdman explained that in the Carr Fire's case, the fire whirl grew so large and tall (estimated up to 18,000 feet), and its winds were so strong that it resembled an actual tornado, ripping roofs off homes, crumpling a transmission tower and leaving the ground scoured of even burned vegetation, in spots.\\r\\n\\r\\n
It prompted the National Weather Service office in Sacramento to issue a special weather statement warnings of local winds up to 50 mph due to the mammoth-sized fire whirl. \\r\\n\\r\\n
\\r\\n\\r\\n
\\\"It's not known whether the transmission tower was crumpled largely from winds or from the intense heat. It's probably some combination of both,\\\" Erdman said.\\r\\n\\r\\n
This is just one way intense wildfires can affect the weather.\\r\\n\\r\\n
\\\"Some wildfires burn hot enough to create a thunderstorm, with lightning, even hail, called a pyrocumulonimbus cloud,\\\" Erdman said. \\\"It's the same mechanism that creates an ordinary thunderstorm, only the superheated air drives the cloud's updraft, and moisture from burning vegetation, in addition to water vapor from the surrounding air, condenses on smoke particles.\\\"\\r\\n\\r\\n
One such wildfire-generated thunderstorm dumped quarter-size hail in the Texas Panhandle in mid-May 2018.\\r\\n\\r\\n

By Wednesday, the Carr Fire was 35 percent contained, though the blaze still threatens some 1,650 structures.\\r\\n\\r\\n
The fire claimed the lives of two firefighters and four civilians, including a 70-year-old great-grandmother and two of her great-grandsons, ages 4 and 5. \\r\\n\\r\\n
\\\"I was talking to my grandson on the phone, he was saying, 'Grandpa, please, you gotta come and help us. The fire's at the back door,'\\\" Ed Bledsoe, husband of the deceased woman and great-grandfather of the two young boys, told CBS News. \\\"I said, 'I'm close by, son, I'm trying to get in there.' I said, 'I'm right by you.'\\\"\\r\\n\\r\\n
Bledsoe said his wife wrapped the boys in wet blankets as he tried to make it back to the home in hopes of saving them.\\r\\n\\r\\n
About 10,000 people were allowed to return to their homes on Monday as some evacuations were lifted, the AP reported. \\\"I like to try to capture the character of the animal I'm photographing. Sometimes even the smallest bug can show a cheeky side to it,\\\" Bridger told weather.com. \\\"I think little owls have the best facial expressions out of the animals I photograph. They can look grumpy, then angry, then curious all within a minute or so.\\\"
Bridger shoots in national parks and in areas of wilderness near his home in Kent. The photographer spends time researching where he might be likely to find certain woodland animals. His work takes a lot of patience, and sometimes he spends hours and days inside a hide, waiting for a glimpse of a creature to photograph.
For Bridger, dawn is the best time to snap photos. He loves to capture the U.K.'s mist and fog during the autumn months. Bridger enjoys shooting in the rain as well.
\\\"Wildlife doesn't really stop for rain, and you can get some awesome shots of animals just going about their lives,\\\" he said.

The world was dazzled Sunday and Monday to a celestial event that hadn't been observed in almost 70 years and won't come again for many years to come.
The \\\"record-breaking\\\" supermoon, known as the Beaver Moon or Frost Moon, was exceptionally large and brought with it higher than normal tides.
Appearing up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than an average full moon, as noted by sciencealert.com, November's supermoon was a once-in-a-lifetime event for many.

Days after Hurricane Matthew smashed into Haiti, we're beginning to see the horrific situation in some parts of the country as they deal with the aftermath of a direct hit.
Although some towns are cut off from the outside world by flooding and damage, aerial images of some of these communities have been taken. In these photos, it's clear that the situation is extremely dire, and entire towns have been destroyed.

As of Friday afternoon, the death toll in Haiti alone soared over 800, and with so many areas yet to be reached, that number was expected to continue to climb.
In the images above, you can see the horrors of a major hurricane's direct hit on one of the world's poorest countries.
