Big Bear Fire Chief Jeff Willis is retiring from duty next year after more than four decades of service to the Big Bear Fire Department, according to the agency.

The announcement was made Thursday, as officials also kicked off a search for a new chief.

"Big Bear Fire Authority is now seeking an experienced fire service professional to serve as its next Fire Chief," the BBFD said in a written statement.
