How to Watch the 2024 Tony Awards With Your Dad This Father’s Day

The 2024 Tony Awards are being held on June 16, which is also Father’s Day, so we hope all of the children of gay dads are ready for that overlap. But for those of us who are not so lucky as to have gay dads, it’s important to know how to get our dads to watch a show that will include a performance from Stereophonic — the ’70s rock play that is the most dad-friendly new work in years. This year’s Tonys will be hosted by Ariana DeBose for the third time in a row, but she’ll be allowed to use a script. It’s a Father’s Day miracle! Below, find all the ways you can watch the 2024 Tony Awards with your dad (alongside a dad rating for accessibility).
Act One with Julianne Hough and Utkarsh Ambudkar
For the third year in a row, the Tonys are choosing to put together a pre-broadcast broadcast that does, in fact, sound fake. Still, there are awards handed out during it, so it’s worth seeing. The Tony Awards Act One, hosted by Julianne Hough and Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar, will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. EST on reportedly real streaming service PlutoTV. If you say so! In terms of a dad rating, we’d give this a just one star — dads don’t need to know what PlutoTV is, and Stereophonic will not be performing.
The Tonys on TV
If you prefer to get down with the classic way of viewing television programming, the Tonys are still available on broadcast TV. They’ll be on CBS at 8 p.m. EST sharp — and we do mean sharp, so get there on time because Ariana DeBose will be singing. This method gets five out of five stars on the dad-o-meter, because dads know what CBS is and this show will definitely include lots of good Stereophoniccontent.

If you’re of the internet age, there are more than enough streaming options to keep you in the theater loop. If you’re a Paramount+ subscriber, they’ll be streaming live there. If not, you can still access the Tonys for free on the CBS app or on CBS.com. That’s right, there’s no excuse for missing Stereophonic perform. Streaming gets a three out of five for dads — they might have Paramount+ to watch 1923 but if not, they may get distracted as you download yet another app to the TV. Quick, someone play Sarah Pidgeon singing “East of Eden” to get him back on track!
