Judge Denies Jay-Z’s Attempt to Dismiss Rape Lawsuit

Judge Analisa Torres ruled on Thursday, December 26, that Jane Doe, who is suing Jay-Z and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, can continue her case anonymously and has dismissed Jay-Z’s attempt at getting the case thrown out of court, reports AP News and The Hollywood Reporter. The judge stated that should the case go any further, the woman may have to identify herself. Also, Jay-Z and his legal team were criticized by Judge Torres for “relentless filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks” on Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee. The accuser, who has also been identified as a woman from Alabama, originally filed a lawsuit against Combs for allegedly raping her at a VMAs after party in 2000 but, on December 8, amended the lawsuit to include Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter. The rapper immediately dismissed the claims, calling them “a blackmail attempt” by Buzbee.
