CBS told NBC, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” and NBC sent the Golden Globes. The bedraggled awards show is heading over to a new network, following one year on NBC and one weird year when it was just on Twitter. And with that move comes a new host, comedian Jo Koy, in his first major TV emceeing gig. (Depending on if you believe a press release or the Globes’ president, he’ll either bring “unique charm, energy, and unpredictable humor” or “infectious energy and relatable humor.”)
For the first year on a new network, the Globes are eschewing their usual chaos to play things pretty safe with top nominees including Barbie, Succession, and Oppenheimer. Wait, is it too late to make Barbcessionheimer a thing? As for the surprises, Barry Keoghan and Jennifer Lawrence both netted noms for impressive nude performances in Saltburn and No Hard Feelings, while Timothée Chalamet is beginning his Wonka Oscars campaign right here. Oh, and Taylor Swift will be there, of course (The Eras Tour is up for the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award), hobnobbing with nominated friends including Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, and Selena Gomez. Who’s presenting at this year’s ceremony?
Many of the presenters come from the night’s nominees — an amuse-bouche of the films up for awards, if you will. Barbie’s America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Dua Lipa, and Will Ferrell are all set to present, along with Oppenheimer’s Florence Pugh. The show will also reunite the power duos of Air’s Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and Nyad’s Annette Bening and Jodie Foster, plus the Across the Spider-Verse quartet of Daniel Kaluuya, Issa Rae, Hailee Steinfeld, and Shameik Moore. Daytime-TV tycoon Oprah Winfrey made her way into the slate of presenters for funsies, or maybe because she’s producing the latest Golden Globe–nominated adaptation of The Color Purple after starring in the 1985 version. Also on the TV side, Yellowstone’s Kevin Costner will put aside his slow-simmering beef to present. Other presenters include Amanda Seyfried, Andra Day, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Banks, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Gabriel Macht, George Lopez, Hunter Schafer, Jared Leto, Jon Batiste, Jonathan Bailey, Julia Garner, Justin Hartley, Kate Beckinsale, Keri Russell, Kristen Wiig, Mark Hamill, Michelle Yeoh, Naomi Watts, Orlando Bloom, Patrick J. Adams, Ray Romano, Rose McIver, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.
How can I watch Hollywood’s historically drunkest awards show?
You have two viable options: Watch the show live on CBS or stream it live on Paramount+. The secret, third option is scrolling through your Twitter feed and pretending you watched it based on the few clips that went viral, not unlike that year the Globes announced winners in a series of tweets. As far as a red carpet, it’s streaming on Variety.com and Entertainment Tonight.
When is it airing?
The ceremony will follow the last Sunday of regular-season football on CBS,airing at 8 p.m. ET. It will also be broadcast live on Paramount+. We will can only hope to see Kylie Jenner trying to hold a plastered Timothée Chalamet together like she’s Amy in that one scene in Little Women (that is, if she’s seen it).
