What if Cate Blanchett’s character in Carol was played by Kate McKinnon, while Rooney Mara’s was still just Rooney Mara? That’s the pressing question your pals Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani answered at the Independent Spirit Awards last night with this sketch, which features footage of the film interspersed with McKinnon’s spot-on Cate Blanchett. Honestly, it’s too bad Todd Haynes’s period film didn’t become a massive box office success, because Kate McKinnon, 1950s lesbian seductress, would be a great Weekend Update character.
