GOOD CHRISTIAN BELLES - The soap returns to Dallas in this wicked new drama that shows that you can go home again… but only if you’re ready to face the sins of your past. “Good Christian Belles” stars Leslie Bibb (“Iron Man”) as Amanda Vaughn, Kristin Chenoweth (“Pushing Daisies”) as Carlene Cockburn Photo: Bill Matlock/American Broadcasting Companies

Earlier this week, ABC’s Southern soap GCB, full of Texas beauty queens and crucifixes, premiered to really quite respectable ratings. But long-shot Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is betting that Mississippi voters aren’t among the show’s early fans. At a rally yesterday, he pinpointed GCB as an example of how the “elite media” and the “entertainment industry” are anti-Christian and pro-Islam. “Come again?” you say. His point was this: “Take the exact name [the show is based on the novel Good Christian Bitches], drop out Christian and put in Muslim, and ask yourself, is there any network that would have dared to run a show like that and you know the answer is not a one.” Then again, it’s not like Muslims haven’t been called much worse names in recent years.
