Dainty, satin-clad ballet slippers might not be the first thing you expect to see padding their way down an autumn/winter runway, yet Miu Miu paid no heed to weather constrictions and struck gold with its ballet-inspired pumps, which are fast becoming the shoe to be seen in this season.Â
Harking back to the brandâs spring/summer 2016 collection, which first thrust the cult ribbon-tied pumps into the spotlight, the new-gen slipper has a simpler silhouette, and is available in both unadorned leather and satin, and features a simple logoed elastic strap.Â
The brand has not, however, held back when it comes to colorways and the ballet pump comes in a range of lust-worthy shades, including powder blue, red, pink, and white. One for every occasion, right? A girl can dream.

Not unlike the OG shoe, fashion editors have already been snapping up the Miu Miu ballet pump 2.0, including Vogueâs Julia Hobbs, who has styled hers with everything from mesh trousers to embellished minidresses, both at home and on holiday.
âIâve been living in Miu Miuâs white satin ballet slipper because they areâI promise youâfar more practical than they sound,â explains Julia. âIf you had asked me last year for a comfortable flat that goes with everything, I would have pointed to my eternal love of Adidas Gazelles, but by spring this year, it was beginning to feel like that particular sneaker moment had peaked. The princess shoe aesthetic offers a counterpoint: I reach for the ballet slippers whenever I want to âsweetenâ a maxi cargo skirt or an enormous leather bomber. If I leave the house in heels, Iâll stash them in a ziplock bag inside my handbag for whenever I might need them. Ultimately, weâre talking about a Prada shoe, which are always among the best quality you can buy â they get more characterful with age.â
Trust us, this slip-on shoe is much more versatile than you might think. Just look at the Miu Miu runway show, where the pump was slipped over ribbed socks and paired with pleated midis, leather shorts, micro mini skirts â you name it. Just maybe leave them at home in torrential downpours if you want to keep them looking box fresh.
For those who still crave the punk undertones of the original buckled variety, youâll be happy to know that the brand has also brought them back in a range of colorways and finishes. Itâs safe to say that flats never looked to temping. Balletcore is officially here to stay.
