Do you have an old Mulberry Bayswater at the back of your wardrobe that you’re no longer using? Or perhaps the Dior Columbus bag you invested in years ago simply isn’t getting enough use. Now might be the perfect time to sell, considering the surging popularity of vintage bags.

Luckily, it’s easier than ever to part ways with your second-hand luxury bags, thanks to the whole host of resale sites out there. Many of them now offer a consignment service, making the process as low-lift as possible. Take eBay, which recently partnered with Luxe Collective for its personalised service. All you have to do is fill out a form, and you’ll be sent a shipping label to post your bag. The experts will do all the hard work from there – meaning you’re more likely to get a higher price for the bag, too (recently, a Chanel flap bag sold for 45 per cent more than the average listing price on eBay, via the consignment service).

“Luxe Collective handles the whole listing,” Mari Corella, eBay’s general manager for global sneakers and luxury, tells Vogue. “They know the right way to price the item, how to take quality photos in professional settings, and all of the nuances to call out.”

If you do decide to go down the old-school route and sell the bag yourself online, make sure you do your homework first. “It’s worth checking the resale value of the specific item you’re looking to sell, as prices can vary on the secondary market,” advises Hanushka Toni, founder and CEO of pre-loved luxury specialists Sellier. To get the best price, it’s important to retain the original authentication cards, receipts and proof of purchase, “as these significantly preserve the item’s value and help to highlight a bag’s authenticity,” the expert adds.

Of course, presenting your bag in the best light possible is crucial. Corella recommends photographing it in natural, soft lighting, and including as many close-up shots as possible so you’re highlighting all the details. Meanwhile, Toni suggests getting your bag professionally cleaned, in order to make it as appealing as possible.

Below, see where to sell your second-hand luxury bags now.

eBay

The OG resale site dropped its seller fees for fashion items back in April, meaning you’ll now receive the full sale price. Plus, its new AI tool makes listing your item hassle-free, or you can use the consignment service for an even more streamlined process. eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee, for bags sold for £500 or more, also means your buyer can purchase with confidence.

Sellier

Founded in 2019, Sellier has quickly become known for its luxury bag offering, selling hundreds of items each week. The consignment store is currently accepting items from “superbrands” such as Chanel, Dior, Hermès and Louis Vuitton – just fill out its online form in order to get a valuation.

Vinted

Listing your bag on Vinted will ensure that you’ll get plenty of eyeballs on your item, while its zero-seller fees also means you’ll get the full amount it sells for in your pocket. The site also has an item verification service for bags sold for £100 or more, across a whole range of brands.

Vestiaire Collective

Specialising in high-end items, Vestiaire Collective is another resale site with a large global audience. Buyers have the option of using the platform’s expert authentication service, too, so they can be sure that the item is genuine.

Sign Of The Times

With more than 45 years’ experience in consigning luxury items, Sign of the Times is a safe pair of hands for reselling your pre-loved bag. The Chelsea-based store accepts items that are one to three seasons old, and offers a complimentary home collection service.

Farfetch Second Life

If you’re looking to re-invest the earnings from your bag into another item, Farfetch’s Second Life service might be the one for you. The e-tailer will give you Farfetch credit in return for your bag as soon as it’s been received and verified. Plus, there are no extra fees.

StockX

For those keen to get the best price possible, StockX is definitely worth checking out. The site allows you to see the last price a particular bag sold for, and the current price that you can sell the item for – meaning you can keep track of its value over time.
