We’re not even halfway through it yet, and already, this awards season has been a whirlwind to say the least. The Golden Globes took place just over a week ago – yes, really – but with the wildfires now raging across LA, they feel like a distant memory. Several celebrations, including the Critics’ Choice Awards and nominations announcements for the Oscars, Writers’ Guild Awards and Producers’ Guild Awards have, understandably, been postponed, but on 15 January, the latest event on the film industry’s calendar, the 2025 BAFTA nominations announcement, happened as planned, ahead of the ceremony on 16 February. Revealed by 2024’s EE Rising Star award winner Mia McKenna-Bruce and The White Lotus’s Will Sharpe, who reiterated that their thoughts were with all those currently in the LA area, the line-up included many expected contenders as well as a few surprises.
