Letter: The younger voice for Avon

If not at a Town council meeting, it’s likely to spot Avon councilwoman Lindsay Hardy dancing at a concert, floating down a river, or sipping a beer at a local watering hole. She’ll most likely be discussing not only serious town matters but also cracking jokes and sharing laughs. She makes a friend of everyone she meets.

She is also one of my greatest sources of inspiration. In September 2018, I was called to Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress to help pass a piece of legislation. This experience sparked me to look toward local government. As a Vail native and lifelong Avon resident, I understood the basics. Initially, I felt out of place given my young age. That’s when I first heard the name Lindsay Hardy.

I became inspired by this young woman who then sat on the Planning and Zoning Commission surrounded by peers whose ages appeared to be much greater than hers. So why couldn’t I?

In March of 2021, I was elected to the Culture, Arts, and Special Events Committee and now have the honor of serving alongside Lindsay as she serves as an ex-officio non-voting council member on the committee. Lindsay paved the way for me, a young person, to get involved.

True to her commitment to our community, Lindsay has continued to exemplify a rare heartfelt civic duty that I believe we all should hold. She has repeatedly advocated for the underrepresented younger population surrounding numerous issues including pivotal items such as housing. She is a familiar face and voice to all, yet she represents and speaks for us in a place that many of us pay little attention to, the Town Council. I ask all Avon voters to reelect Lindsay Hardy to the council so she can continue to be the younger voice for Avon.
