Jacqueline Adler Anthony, Born June 7, 1943 to Sir Jacques Henri Adler and May Morrill Evans of the Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, passed at the start of the New Year in her home in Singletree, Edwards, Colorado.

Jackie was a descendent of a family with an interesting background; her father was knighted by the King of Belgium, he escaped from Nazi occupied Belgium at the beginning of WW2 and was an avid world traveler. Jackie’s mother had an obscure background as she was adopted out of abject poverty during the Great Depression into a family with extended ties to Colorado and the development of the Historical Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs where Jackie and her sister were raised.

Jaqueline who preferred to be called Jackie was the eldest of 2 daughters and considered the wild child. She struggled at school which was made more difficult due to learning disabilities during a time when such things were rarely diagnosed. Jackie excelled in outdoor activities and sports. The blond haired, green eyed athlete was “adorable” and the life of the party. Jackie was briefly engaged to the Mayor of Nice while attending boarding school in Europe which exemplified her early adult life. The boujee life of Europe did not appeal to Jackie, so against her family’s wishes she briefly transferred to Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado where her studies were often distracted by ski trips to Crested Butte. Jackie threw in the towel on higher education and moved to Crested Butte where she worked in as the “fondue girl” in a high-end restaurant. She eventually met and fell in love with a locally raised ski patroller, Vino Anthony. Vino and Jackie married and moved to Denver where they started their family. Jackie, who was raised by a quasi-Jewish family and Vino, who was raised Catholic by an immigrant family, had very different backgrounds. Regardless of their differences, they had a strong common bond which was skiing and snow.

On the weekends the couple would travel back to Crested Butte frequently until Copper Mountain was developed in 1972 where Jackie and Vino both were hired as some of the first employees at the resort. Jackie helped start the Children’s Ski School while Vino co-founded a youth program called the Copper Choppers. The couple later opened a kid’s specific ski shop in Denver to help keep skiing and ski equipment affordable for families.
Eventually Jackie and Vino moved first to Silverthorne and then on to Copper Mountain so the family could ski more. Jackie took a job at City Market in Silverthorne and Vino opened a jewelry store in Frisco.

The couple were able to buy a lot in the new development of Singletree in Edwards Colorado and build a home in 1980. Jackie transferred to the Avon City Market and Vino opened up jewelry store, the Golden Beaver, in the new ski resort of Beaver Creek, Colorado.

Jackie continued to work at City Market in Avon for over 40 years where most of the community passed through her checkout lane at one point or another. Some people would go out of their way to wait in her checkout line, regardless of it being the longest line, just to chat with Jackie.

Jackie is survived by her son Chris Anthony, daughter and son in law Kelli and Kreston Rohrig and super mutt Brodie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local pet shelter, organizations supporting Ukraine, the Chris Anthony Youth Initiative, or a cancer center.
