زندگی خواہشوں کا مقتل ہے

دل کی دنیا میں ایک ہلچل ہے

ہوش کی حد میں رہ نہیں سکتا

برتری کا مریض پاگل ہے

خیر خواہی کی گھاس کے نیچے

مصلحت کی غلیظ دلدل ہے

اور اک چوٹ دیجیے مجھ کو!

میری تکلیف نامکمل ہے

اے اثرؔ! خیریت کا دروازہ

سالہا سال سے مقفل ہے

zindagi KHwahishon ka maqtal hai
dil ki duniya mein ek halchal hai

hosh ki had mein rah nahin sakta
bartari ka mariz pagal hai

KHair-KHwahi ki ghas ke niche
maslahat ki ghaliz daldal hai

aur ek choT dijiye mujh ko!
meri taklif na-mukammal hai

ai 'asar'! KHairiyat ka darwaza
sal-ha-sal se muqaffal hai
