ENDERLIN, N.D. — A pilot was injured in a plane crash that occurred at 10:07 a.m. Monday, May 13, in a farm field one mile west of Enderlin.

Jessica Herman, a 33-year-old Kulm resident, took off from the Enderlin Airport for an exhibition flight in a 1951 Piper Cub, a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol said. After takeoff, the engine malfunctioned, and Herman attempted to make an emergency landing in the field.

The plane came to a rest on its roof, the Highway Patrol said. Herman's injuries were considered minor. A 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy on board the plane were uninjured, the release said.

Charges are under investigation for Herman.

Sheriff's offices from Cass and Ransom counties, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration, Enderlin-Sheldon Fire Department and Lisbon Ambulance also responded to the crash.

The FAA is investigating the crash, the Highway Patrol said.

Enderlin is roughly 57 miles southwest of Fargo.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
