mal comments on a post from last year: Well, there’s nothing wrong with current Russian commercial space program such – they are launching OneWeb satellites now and there’s a Korean one thats supposed to go on Angara. SpaceX does have more launches but thats because they launch their own Starlink constellation and Russian Sphere is... Read More

I have long wanted to make a "pilgrimage" to Borovsk, home to the museum-apartment of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, one of the three major thinkers - along with Nikolay Fyodorov and Vladimir Vernadsky - who could be said to be the fathers of Russian Cosmism, which is the precursor to modern transhumanism. Fortunately, to reach Borovsk, the... Read More
This is the fourth in a series of posts about the demographics of the coming Age of Malthusian Industrialism. In the decades and centuries to come, technological progress will slow to a crawl, as dysgenic reproduction patterns deplete the world's remaining smart fractions (assuming that there are no abrupt discontinuities in humanity's capacity for collective... Look, I realize Elon Musk is really cool and all, but this latest is just not that significant. The Falcon Heavy can carry 63 tons into orbit - but only if the rocket isn't reused. If it is, it's just a sad 8 tons [for GTO launches]. That already rules out commercial applications involving very... Read More

Image by Kerihobo. While everybody is discussing the tantalizing possibility that this far off star with its strange dimming patterns hosts an alien megastructure, perhaps a Dyson Sphere under construction, there are even more exotic scenarios out there. For instance, why not the ruins of one? One of the obvious (if pessimistic) solutions to the... Read More
Keep those questions coming! My Ask.fm account: I don't always answer immediately, but will come around to it eventually. And repost them here. Incidentally, it's also a great way to fulfill a blogging quota. ;) *** what do you think is the single biggest difference between Russians and Anglo-Saxons? Books can be written about this,... I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.
One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.
Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
