I mentioned this Ipsos poll on global attitudes to LGBT in a previous Open Thread, but it really deserves a separate post on account of its significance. I think it demonstrates three things: LGBT rights (as in marriage and adoption) have become universalized beyond their Western core, with the Rest sliding into line soon after... Read More
I wrote about Woke Capital making inroads into Russia after Netherlands HQ'ed Yandex.Taxi fired a driver who refused service to a rude Black foreign student last year. However, not all such corporate attempts to signal fealty to progressive values are paying off. Vkusvill is a nice chain of grocery stores that are somewhere in between... Read More
«Ромир»/GlobalNR poll with n=7,100 respondents across nine countries has some interesting if broadly unsurprising results. (Extra coverage). Percentage that agree with: "Traditional gender roles for girls and boys are better suited for society." China - 82% Russia - 71% India - 69% Thailand - 48% USA - 47% Italy - 43% UK - 37% Brazil... The action, in which LGBT activists draped their rainbow flag over the Motherland statue in Kiev, is called "Mother Understands and Supports." Ukrainians are about as homophobic as Russians, according to polls. But the cargo cult is more important. The wars in the comments - or khokhlosrach, as they are known in our parts -... Read More
There's a few theories that I push over and over again when discussions on European social trends come up: Communism was a "deep freezer" that conserved antediluvian ("based" in our lingvo) social attitudes in Eastern Europe, at least relative to countries under the American sphere of influence. These attitudes express themselves particularly strongly on LGBT,... Read More
This graph shows support for gay marriage in Estonia by age group and language (blue - Russian; red - Estonian). The older people lived in one homophobic country. Amongst younger people, Estonians tuned into Estonian language media, which I imagine is highly Europeanized, or even went straight to the source (English language media). Russians tuned... Read More
Georgia makes basically no sense from an HBD perspective. Georgians aren't very bright, and GDP growth has been unimpressive For all the praise heaped upon Georgia by deregulation advocates and libertarians, its institutional miracle hasn't been accompanied by an economic one; GDP per capita is only about 15% above peak Soviet levels. This is much... Read More
Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4 Sometime in the 1990s, a critical mass of the American cognitive elite - that part of it which controls the bullhorns, anyway - must have decided that gay marriage was great. Now those people are usually well-spoken and articulate, with very high verbal IQs, while their opponents... tend to leave... Read More
Well, most of them, anyway. Otherwise the prospects of Ukraine's euroassociators don't look all that good. Out of all the more than a dozen polls on this question done since December 2015, not a single one has been in Ukraine's favor. The average gap between the share of people supporting and opposing the Ukraine–European Union... Read More
I knew that gays had a maybe five or even ten times higher chance of getting AIDS and other STD's than heterosexuals. I didn't know the differential was actually more like 50. Something like 20% of the US gay population (which makes up 3.5% of its total population) is HIV positive. It is 5% in... Read More
And no, I ain't talking of that von Neumann crap. :) Game theory as developed by Heartiste and Co (1, 2, 3, 4). Before we start, there are two concepts we must avail ourselves of: Female hypergamy: Woman's tendency to mate up the social hierarchy. Soft polygamy: See picture right, as helpfully illustrated by yours... Read More
You can listen to the 56 minutes of my interview on The Stark Truth about race realism, IQ / human capital, and economic development here. (That, or read the posts linked to therein if you haven't already. I didn't say much new). Many thanks to Robert Stark, and the Voice of Reason Broadcast Network which... Read More
Russia is in something of a homophobic fever. Four regions (including Saint-Petersburg) have banned the dissemination of "gay propaganda" to minors, it may yet go federal, and disassociated itself from a G8 statement on gay rights. It's obviously not like in many Middle Eastern countries where homosexuality is illegal (as in the USSR) but attitudes... Read More
I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.
One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.
Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
