Belarus was being used as a transport hub by Wagner - in this case, to Sudan - because Russian airports are currently closed to most international foreign travel, with the Belarus leadership and KGB was appraised of it. The arrest of the 32 Wagner mercenaries and publication of their identities is a very hostile move... Read More
As I have blogged before (see "2.c. The Persian Gulf" in this article), Iran's best chance to substantially shut down the Strait of Hormuz is to lay mines, then target US minesweeping vessels. They are far less well defended than its capital ships, and more fragile than the double-hulled, compartmentalized behemoths that constitute modern oil... Read More
As I have made clear, I am not any sort of fan of Maduro/Caballo's regime. When you have the empty shelves of the late Soviet Union, the inflation rate of Zimbabwe, and the murder rate of Honduras, it's safe to say that things have gone wrong somewhere. Nor am I blaming the US for it.... Read More
Rediscovering the Russian Imperial traditions. Bliny on sour dough of buckwheat flour and sour dairy, served with sour cream, salmon, and red caviar at the apartment of a Finn whose family maintained the Imperial traditions. I will be departing for Romania very early tomorrow. Any last tips/recs? I'll be two days in Ploiesti for two... Read More
At this point I'm just wondering when neoliberalism.txt will finally lay off the Russiagate conspiracy theory. I suspect never. The neocons surrounding Trump have locked him into a never-ending spiral of escalation towards Russia in a hopeless bid to "prove" that he is not Putin's puppet. By striking Syria, Trump becomes "Presidential" in eyes of... Read More
There are so many problems with the propaganda campaign against Assad getting unrolled now. (1) You can't treat exposure to sarin with your bare hands without falling ill/dead yourself, as the White Helmets were apparently doing in the aftermath of the Idlib attack. (2) As Syrian war reporter @Partisangirl noticed, some journalists were apparently discussing... Read More

About Anatoly Karlin

I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.

One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.

Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
