Biographical Summary
Michael Soules is assistant professor is the Department of Political Science. He will be joining the department in the fall of 2023. Prior to this, he was a Donald R. Beall Defense Fellow at the Naval Postgraduate School. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Penn State University and his B.A. from Texas A&M University. His research is in international relations with a focus on civil war, terrorism, rebel group recruitment and socialization, ideology and political violence, and gender and political violence. His current work focuses primarily on the causes and consequences of rebel group recruitment processes. His published work appears in several journals, including International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Conflict Management and Peace Science, International Interactions, and Security Studies. He teaches courses on international relations, civil war, and terrorism.
