WaterField Designs updated its excellent magnetic cases for the Switch 2.

We’re already big fans of the company’s Analogue Pocket and original Switch cases that swap zippers and annoying velcro for quick access magnetic closures. WaterField’s Magnetic Case for Switch 2 is now available for preorder for $89 to $119 depending on the material you choose, as is its $129 CitySlicker for Switch 2 which can be paired with an optional strap turning it into a bag. Both are expected to ship in late June 2025.

Ever seen a battery-free smart lock that siphons power from your phone?

I wrote about this idea in 2022, it actually exists, and it’s super cool! Your credit card doesn’t need a battery for tap-to-pay, your ID badge doesn’t need a battery when you tap the door reader, and the same goes for these NFC locks — they all collect tiny amounts of wireless power.

Just let me know if you ever see one a little more... practical?

The new Pebble’s new charger.

Designed by Nomad, the charger’s magnetic design looks similar to the one it created for the original Pebble watches eight years ago, complete with a USB-C port instead of a permanently attached cable so you can connect your own.

Are E ink gaming handhelds becoming a thing?

Just months after we saw the E ink gaming handheld from developer Dana Puch, now maker Pedro Porras Luraschi has come up with Figment: a Switch-like gaming handheld with a 7.5-inch E ink display, as reported earlier by Android Authority.

The device is still just a concept, but it’s designed to let you create and play choose-your-own adventure stories, featuring an AI co-author that “fills the gaps the main writer didn’t write.” You can sign up for updates about Figment from the device’s website.

This brutalist machined aluminum keyboard is still beautiful.

Serene Industries is following up on its massive wedge-shaped Icebreaker keyboard with a smaller, lighter alternative called the Cleaver. Available for preorder now for $850 it’s also cheaper, but by no means cheap.

Machined from a single block of aluminum, the Cleaver features Hall effect switches and swappable aluminum keycaps perforated with holes to allow LED backlighting to shine through. It’s USB-C only, and available with Windows or Mac layouts and clear or black anodized finishes.

The Cleaver is available for preorder and will go into production a few weeks after launch.
You can order the Cleaver without the matching aluminum keycaps if you want to use your own, dropping the preorder price to $650.
The Cleaver offers no wireless connectivity, but the lack of an internal battery helps keep its design slim.

8BitDo has given its Retro R8 Mouse an NES makeover.

First released alongside 8BitDo’s Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard - Xbox Edition last November with a matching transparent green shell, the Retro R8 Mouse is now available in an N Edition with colors inspired by the NES.

Functionally it’s the same as the Xbox version with an included charging dock, four programmable side buttons, and Bluetooth, 2.4GHz and USB connectivity. It also uses Kailh Sword GM X Micro Switches for its primary buttons, and a PAW 3395 optical sensor.

The Retro R8 Mouse is a more ergonomic and functional alternative to 8BitDo’s earlier NES-themed mouse.

Watch this detailed restoration of a Game Boy demo kiosk.

The internet has lots of videos walking you through the process of restoring and upgrading an original Game Boy. Elliot Coll, of YouTube’s The Retro Future channel, instead dives deep into the process of restoring an original Game Boy demo kiosk used to promote the handheld in stores.

The kiosks only work with a custom version of the Game Boy that are just as rare, but Coll already had one in their personal collection.

OnePlus’ “small” phone will launch with a big battery.

When it debuts in China later this week on April 24th, the OnePlus 13T will feature a 6,260mAh battery, as spotted by Notebookcheck. That’s a lot of capacity for a compact phone with a 6.32-inch screen. For comparison, the 6.3-inch Google Pixel 9A has a 5,100mAh battery, while the 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro has an even smaller 3,582mAh battery.

Looking Glass finally has a typical-monitor-sized screen.

The glasses-free 3D display company has gone small, and it’s gone as big as a 65-inch TV. Now, the company also has its first monitor-sized 27-inch model, with 16 inches of perceivable depth according to the company.

At $10,000 ($8,000 till May) it’s way pricier than a 3D gaming monitor like Samsung’s new 3D Odyssey, but also not really for gaming. It’s “a must-have for malls, stadiums, and storefronts,” boasts one customer, to give you an idea.

Here are my five favorite USB-C cables, all with tricks up their sleeves.

Literally! Some have magnetic sleeves, some have power meters up the sleeves, and some have excellent charging and data speeds. But five different cables... can someone please make the one to rule them all?

8BitDo’s Ultimate 2 controller with anti-drift sticks now supports the Switch.

After launching the Ultimate 2 controller last February with TMR joysticks and support for Windows and Android devices, 8BitDo has released a new version compatible with the Switch.

The $69.99 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth controller, available in white or black, is functionally the same as the original (which also supported Bluetooth) but now plays nice with Nintendo’s portable console and features an alternate button label layout for Switch gamers.

This tiny drink cooling robot has finally hit Kickstarter

First announced at CES 2025, Yukai Engineering’s Nékojita FuFu is a tiny robot that’s designed to hang off cups and bowls to cool food and drinks by blowing on them. Calling it a robot is might be a bit of a stretch, but it’s cute, compact, and now available for preorder through Kickstarter for ¥3,550 (around $25 USD).

It’s USB-C rechargeable and can reduce temperatures by up to 30 degrees in just three minutes.

Nékojita FuFu is designed to hang off bowls and cups less than 6 millimeters thick but can also sit next to plates full of food.
The robot’s body is made of silicone so it’s washable and it can be controlled using a wireless remote.
Nékojita FuFu offers multiple blowing modes including one that emulates the varied strength and rhythm of a human blowing.

This mechanical watch was inspired by a transforming ‘80s wearable toy.

One of the more obscure toys of the ‘80s was a line of digital watches from Japan’s Takara called the Kronoform that could transform into vehicles, creatures, and even a robot. Hautlence’s modern take trades digital timekeeping for a self-winding mechanical movement featuring a tourbillon to improve accuracy.

The Retrovision ‘85 is also made from 3D-printed titanium instead of plastic, and since just eight are being made, you can expect a steep price tag.

The Hautlence Retrovision ‘85 watch can be removed from its strap and transformed into a tiny robot.
The timepiece is made from 3D-printed titanium and has a power reserve of 72 hours, but also features a self-winding mechanism extending its run time while it’s worn.
