Still Life with Fruit and Flowers by SJ Peploe, the Scottish painter, was described by Alice Strang, a senior curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, as “a testament to modernity and friendship”, due to the artist’s close relationship with a fellow artist, FCB Cadell, during their time together in Edinburgh. The work is estimated to fetch between £200,000 and £300,000 at a Lyon & Turnbull’s sale next week
