Tawau MMEA destroys 31kg of confiscated syabu

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 31kg of syabu with a street value of about RM1.5mil was destroyed by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

In a statement Thursday (Nov 7), Tawau MMEA Zone director Capt Shahrizan Raman said the disposal process was done on Tuesday (Nov 5) in collaboration with Cenviro Sdn Bhd in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.

He said that the disposal of the syabu or methamphetamine was carried out after Maritime Malaysia received an official court order to destroy the drugs confiscated by the agency in 2022.

"The drugs were incinerated safely without polluting the environment by the company appointed to manage the disposal," he said.

Shahrizan said that it was the first time the company had been given the task to destroy the drugs and it was done according to the prescribed procedure.

Shahrizan said that the Tawau Maritime Zone would continue to increase patrolling and enforcement around the waters of this district.

"We will always carry out patrols, especially in hotspots that are suspected of being the location of criminal activities such as drug smuggling, especially at the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Tawau," he added.
