Repaint for a Fresh Look

One of the simplest and most effective ways to revamp existing bathroom cabinets is to use a fresh coat of paint

"But even then, you can decide if you’d like to give them a luxe lacquered finish for an elevated and high-end finish," Brown said.

Choosing a color that compliments your bathroom's theme can make a significant impact. Soft pastels can create a calming atmosphere, while bold hues can add a splash of drama.

Introduce Wood Slatted Panels

If you're looking to add texture and depth to your cabinets, consider incorporating wood-slatted panels.

"These come in different panel lengths and widths and can be cut to size," explains Brown.

Not only do these panels provide a warm, natural element to your bathroom, but they can also tie together various design aspects if you use them in other areas of the room. For example, adding matching wood elements like shelves or trim can create a cohesive look.

Experiment With Wallpaper

Wallpaper is making a comeback, and it can be an unexpected yet charming addition to bathroom cabinetry. Brown suggests using materials like grasscloth or a linen look, which are now available in vinyl options for durability.

"You can also use natural woven caning that can be framed out around the perimeter of the cabinet to refresh the fronts," he adds.

The right wallpaper can enhance the cabinetry while adding personality to the bathroom, transforming the space from mundane to magnificent.

Upgrade Hardware

Another straightforward method to enhance existing cabinets for bathroom use is swapping out the hardware.

"Here’s where you can get a more artisanal or high-end look in different materials like wood, acrylic, cast metal, and natural stone," says Brown.

The right knobs and pulls can act as jewelry for your cabinets, adding a touch of elegance. Opt for unique designs that reflect your personal style, whether it’s vintage, modern, or eclectic.

Add LED Lighting

Functional and aesthetically pleasing, LED strip lighting is a game-changer for cabinet renovations. Brown recommends installing LED lights under the perimeter of the cabinet, toe kick, and even inside the cabinet.

"This adds a little unexpected but appreciated detailing," he notes.

LED lights can create a soft glow that enhances your bathroom's ambiance, making it feel more inviting while also providing practical illumination for tasks like applying makeup or shaving.

Play With Textures and Materials

Finally, don't be afraid to mix textures and materials when renovating your bathroom with existing cabinets. Combine wood with metal accents or pair painted surfaces with natural finishes for a dynamic look.

"Layering different textures can add richness and depth to your bathroom," advises Brown.

Create Open Shelving

If you prefer a more minimalist design, consider transforming some cabinet doors into open shelving. This approach can help make your bathroom feel more spacious while providing easy access to items you use frequently.

Display decorative baskets. rolled towels, or even plants to add a personal touch. The open shelving trend is perfect for those who want to showcase their style while maintaining functionality.

Renovating your bathroom using existing cabinets is a fantastic way to unleash creativity while also being budget-conscious. With simple updates like painting, adding slatted panels, or introducing lighting, you can transform your bathroom into a stylish and functional space.
