Lauren Thomann is a freelance writer and business owner who is currently renovating a 1916 bungalow. As a vintage enthusiast, she approaches her DIY crafting and home improvement projects with practicality and preservation in mind. In 2014, Lauren joined what would eventually become The Spruce as an expert writer, focused on antiques and DIYs.
Along with loving old things with a story, Lauren has a knack for crafting. She makes jewelry using reclaimed pieces and enjoys painting and other creative endeavors. Currently, she is renovating her bungalow and tackling many home-related DIY projects, which informs her expertise on home improvement.

Lauren has nearly 10 years of experience creating home and lifestyle content and has written for Dotdash sites (including what would eventually become The Spruce) since 2014.
She launched Ageless Heirlooms, an online publication about antique jewelry, in 2006. In 2018, Lauren launched Heirlooms at Home, a sister publication, to share info and guidance on antique furniture and older homes. She has completed several diamond and gemstone courses and apprenticeship-style experiences to enhance her knowledge of antiques and gemstones.
Education
Lauren earned a dual bachelor's degree in English and linguistics from the University at Buffalo in 2007.
Lauren is also self-taught and taught through many apprentice-like relationships. Similarly, she completed several diamond and gemstone courses at the Gemological Institute of America in NYC.
To Lauren, learning is a never-ending process. She further develops her skills through various workshops, online courses, and reading. She enjoys a challenge and finding new ways to express herself through the written word.
