-
Are wood pallets safe to use indoors?
Do your best to ensure that the wood is clean, free of oil-based or other stains, and has not been treated with harmful chemicals. Choose pallets stamped HT (heat-treated using steam or dry kiln heat) or DH (dielectric heated using microwaves or radio frequencies). Avoid using pallets that are marked with MB (Methyl Bromide) or SF (Sulfuryl Fluoride), both of which leave behind chemicals you don't want in your furniture.
-
What are the downsides of pallet furniture?
In addition to the risk of exposing yourself to harmful chemicals from pallets that have been treated with them, look out for any protruding nails, screws, or sharp edges when working with a wood pallet. Sand any newly acquired pallets to minimize the chance of splinters.
-
Does pallet furniture attract bugs?
Yes, pallet furniture can attract bugs because there are so many nooks and crannies for bugs to hide. Plus, wood-eating pests will have plenty of food. Be sure to check your pallet furniture before beginning your project.
