RAWALPINDI: A young officer of the Pakistan Army was martyred, and 13 Khawarij were killed in three separate engagements in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the past two days.
An Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) was conducted in the North Waziristan District, during which five Khawarij were effectively neutralised by security forces, while eight others were injured.
However, during the intense exchange of fire, Major Muhammad Awais (31 years old, resident of Narowal District), a courageous officer who was leading his troops from the front and fought valiantly, embraced martyrdom.
Major Awais Shaheed is survived by his wife, son, parents and siblings.
In another operation in the general area of Jani Khel, Bannu District, security forces, acting on reports of Khawarij’s presence, engaged the militants and killed two Khawarij.
In the third encounter in South Waziristan District, security forces successfully neutralised six Khawarij, while eight others were injured.
Sanitization operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining Khawarij in the area.
The Pakistan Army remains steadfast in its resolve to eradicate terrorism, with the sacrifices of brave soldiers further strengthening this commitment, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
