'Fun and energetic' Texas college athlete gunned down by three teens at neighborhood recreation center

A Texas athlete who was labeled as "fun and energetic" was reportedly gunned down on Thursday around 5:30 p.m. near the Birnam Woods Subdivision Recreation Center in Spring, Texas. The center is located off Birnam Wood Boulevard near Hickorygate Drive.

It was reported by ABC affiliate KTRK that several witnesses seemingly heard a single gunshot and then saw three males running away from the scene. Police reported that when they arrived, all that remained of the crime was the adult's body with a single gunshot wound. However, all three suspects were gone.

Investigators have announced that the victim was 18-year-old Jaston Hamilton. In a statement, Sgt. Jason Brown asked anyone who may have seen something to come forward.

"Any of the residents in the area that witnessed this shooting or possibly have video of the suspects who were fleeing the scene -- we're asking them to contact the sheriff's office," Brown stated. It is believed that the suspects wanted in connection to the crime are of the same age.

The shooting comes after a Montana man allegedly shot and killed his wife as well as a bartender he suspected she was having an affair with. Kraig Walter Benson was sentenced to 140 years in prison on Friday for the deaths of his wife, Jenny, and the bartender, Logan at the Four Aces Bar.

Friends and family of the deceased told Kraig they hoped he would have a “miserable life” in prison at the hearing. During the night of the murder, Benson was spotted on CCTV leaving the bar he had visited with Jenny to smoke a cigarette at around 9 pm, according to an affidavit.

However, the man then opened the door of his wife’s Chevrolet Tahoe and retrieved a weapon from the vehicle. He then returned to the bar and shot his wife in the head at point-blank range.

As chaos erupted around the man, Benson aimed the gun at Logan and shot him as well, according to the document. He was later seen on the footage shooting Jenny a second time and peppering Logan with three more rounds. Kraig was arrested by police not long after the chilling incident.

At his trial, the man was found guilty of two counts of deliberate homicide in October and was handed his life sentence on Friday. Loved ones from the victims' families blasted Kraig for his depraved actions during the hearing - with one calling him a “monster”, according to 3KRTV.

Paige Tailor Benson, the daughter of Jenny and Benson, said that her mother was her "rock" and slammed her father as a “narcissistic person." Paige praised her mother's character in court per NBC Montana.

“She was my rock, the one person I could always rely on," she said. "For many reasons I dropped out of college and moved to Spokane. I lost the life I once knew and loved. My father is a narcissistic person.”
