President Joe Biden has solemnly proclaimed January 9, 2025, a national day of mourning to pay tribute to the late former President Jimmy Carter On this day, federal entities such as the post office will shutter their doors in reverence.
The customary bustle of stock trading on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be paused, and Nasdaq bond markets will see abbreviated hours. Yet, it is not deemed a federal holiday, granting private businesses the discretion to remain open.
A national day of mourning doesn't necessitate business closures. In earnest command, Biden decreed that "all executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed on Jan. 9," barring essential operations tied to "national security, defense, or other public need."

Preoccupied with inauguration formalities, Trump fixates, expressing grievances over the flags at half-mast in memory of Jimmy Carter on his notable day, reports the Irish Star. Reflecting on Carter's legacy, it's known that he deemed politics a sin and was famously spurred into action by one particular method.
The president, marking December 30 as the official date for the funeral service and national observance, declared, "I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship to pay homage to the memory of President James Earl Carter Jr. I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance."
The 39th president of the United States, Carter, passed away on December 29 at the remarkable age of 100, making him the longest-lived president in US history. He will be laid to rest next to his dearly departed wife of 77 years, Rosalynn, who passed away in November 2023.
The public is invited to pay their respects from 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
