PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti--Following the July graduation ceremony for sixth graders of L’Ecole de Choix (School of Choice or Choix), the school’s academic excellence programme for qualifying graduates was in full swing throughout the summer in order to provide intensive preparation to continuing students, according to a press release from Choix.
During these summer months, the programme provided support to graduates as they studied for Haiti’s mandatory national exams, which are required for students at the end of their 9th and 13th (philo) grades.
All of the Choix students successfully sat for their exams and experienced no disruptions to the schedule or process, according to the release. Choix anticipates results in the next few months and looks forward to reporting on them.
While Haiti’s Ministry of Education has issued a delayed start date for all schools until October, Choix’s tutoring and mentoring programme has continued. Starting this month, all qualifying grads are invited back to campus to join Choix professors for revision in their basic subjects in French and maths, and also to enjoy a warm meal and the support of their familiar social circles.
Choix grads feel safe and relaxed at their “home away from home”, one of its key objectives in maintaining its graduate programme, the release states, adding that one cannot learn if one is in a constant state of trauma.
Choix continues to accept general contributions to support its ongoing academic excellence programme for its graduates, which will ensure their continued academic success through 13th grade (philo). “Please join us as we remain in solidarity with our students, their families and our community,” the release concludes.
