The Coach fall 2021 collection showed what things would look like if a fashion brand had a TV network, or maybe a streaming service.
The video Coach TV kicks off with an all-too-relatable scene: Michael B. Jordan lounging on the couch in a cozy groutfit, channel surfing through Coach’s star-studded take on iconic American shows. Think Friends but make it K-pop, Mean Girls with Megan Thee Stallion as Regina George, Tavi Gevinson as an Antiques Roadshow appraiser, J.Lo in an MTV-like music video lip-syncing to Blondie, and Rickey Thompson selling Coach handbags on a shopping channel. There’s even a sexy late-night-hotline commercial with Cole Sprouse caressing a pillowy bag to a voice-over by Bob the Drag Queen.
When the kooky preshow comes to an end, it leads us to the brand’s fall 2021 look book, which was shot around the world by Juergen Teller and modeled by Coach’s celebrity “family,” a group of famous faces including Kaia Gerber and Paloma Elsesser. Coach Forever Season Two builds on last season’s mix of archival and brand-new pieces. Leather bags and jackets are upcycled and collaged to create new garments. Creative director Stuart Vevers wanted to speak to the current moment by exploring “creature comforts” — the kind of layered outfits you would see a New Yorker sporting while ordering a bacon, egg, and cheese at the corner deli.
“I have always loved exploring the intersection of fashion and pop culture at Coach,” said Vevers in a statement. “I am excited to bring my latest vision for the house to life via Coach TV. I wanted both the collection and the presentation to make sense and resonate in these unique times, and I am excited to share both in a way that I hope will entertain and inspire.”
