WHAT IS VICTORIAN DECOR?
Victorian Decor is known for its ornamental and elegant lavish style that gave luxurious character to the houses of the Victorian era. During 1830 and the early 1900s, houses became showcases of furniture and art pieces that earlier were only accessible to royalty and the most affluent upper class. The Industrial Revolution gave middle-class homeowners the opportunity to fill their homes with mass-produced ornate moldings, grand fireplaces, intricate wool furniture, and luxurious fabrics. Color also characterized the decor of the Victorian period. Rich jewel tones such as dark green, amber, maroons, blues, and gold made the Victorian Decor a style where more was more!
WHAT IS MODERN VICTORIAN DECOR?
The way we decorate now has changed much. Open spaces, neutral tones, and simple lines are becoming the most popular way to home design. Modern Victorian Decor combines the original ornate furniture, realistic art, and luxurious fabrics of the Victorian Period with the openness and fewer amounts of pieces more characteristic of modern decor.
WHERE TO BUY VICTORIAN DECOR?
Original Victorian Decor, furniture, and art can be found in flea markets, thrift and antique stores, estate sales, and online vintage shops. Make sure not to be afraid of fixing up old pieces but be mindful of keeping the integrity of the furniture; after all, you are bringing some of the Victorian years back. Here is some inspiration!

When designing an interior for a client, I always advise them to be true to themselves. As an interior designer, I see more and more how we lose creativity and individuality when following social media trends. If you are thinking about remodeling your home, listen to your inner voice and imagine a perfect time and place in your head. If you love it while daydreaming, you will also love it in real life.
Last week Tom (my husband) and I were talking about his office. While contemplating different desks and lamps for his space, I reminded him that he should have 100% ownership of his workspace. No one else’s (including myself) opinions should matter when it comes down to designing the corner of your home where you work. You should love it.
