A modern car like the Porsche Taycan deserves a modern launch event. In this spirit, the German carmaker has opted to hold a livestream of the production Taycan’s formal unveiling, which is set to be simultaneously held in Canada, Germany, and China at 9 a.m. EST.
To say that the expectations for the Taycan are high would be an understatement. Porsche is arguably one of the best sports car makers in the auto industry, and the Taycan, which is based on the critically-acclaimed Mission E sedan, has been in development for years. With Porsche stating that the Taycan is one of its most important vehicles since the 911, the electric four-door sedan has to attract both the EV community and longtime Porsche owners.

The Taycan underwent extensive testing over the years. At one point, the vehicle was spotted being tested alongside the Tesla Model S and Model X in Germany. The Taycan was also heavily tuned for the track, as shown in its constant tests in the Nurburgring. The results of this could be found in the Taycan’s official time around the iconic track, with the electric car setting an impressive 7:42 lap, just four seconds short of the record set by its stablemate, the Panamera Turbo S.
Among the carmakers in Germany, Porsche is one of the companies that have made the most concrete moves to depart from diesel. Volkswagen might have announced massive investments, and Audi might have beaten the Taycan to market with the e-tron, but Porsche nevertheless deserves credit for completely abandoning diesel from its lineup since the past year. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume explained the decision in a statement then.
“It (diesel) is, and will remain, an important propulsion technology. We as a sports car manufacturer, however, for whom diesel has always played a secondary role, have come to the conclusion that we would like our future to be diesel-free,” he said.
The past weeks have seen Porsche conduct a full press of advertisements for the Taycan. Apart from announcing its impressive lap time around the Nurburgring, the carmaker has also held other unique demonstrations to showcase the vehicle’s capabilities. A recent example of this is a 0-90-0 mph demo at the 869-foot flight deck of the USS Hornet, an aircraft carrier that, at one point in its service, recovered the astronauts from the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 Moon missions.
