In November, a slim majority decided they wanted a Republican president, Senate and House.
Soon we will see one of the implications.
Among the first orders of business for the new Congress will be to pass a 2025 budget and tax reconciliation bill. The Republican plan is to extend President Trumpâs 2017 tax cuts, which expire in 2025 and, overwhelmingly, benefit wealthy individuals and corporations. This would cost $5 trillion over the next decade. To help pay for the tax cuts, Republicans plan spending cuts that could include cutting food stamp benefits; repealing clean energy programs; imposing Medicaid work requirements; eliminating the Department of Education, which provides funds for special-needs kids and much more; cutting veteransâ health care; ending the child tax credit for children of tax-paying noncitizens; and rescinding IRS money presently allocated for customer service and to scrutinize wealthy tax cheats.
We, who do not support these priorities, need to say so loudly and clearly to Senator Grassley, Senator Ernst and Representative Hinson.
