TAMPA â There is nothing simple or quick about getting an NFL field playoff ready.
On Friday, facility grounds coordinator Trey Altman applied paint to the yard markers at Raymond James Stadium, where the Tampa Bay Bucs and Washington Commanders will meet Sunday night for an NFC wild-card game.
The three-day process involves stenciling and hand-painting numbers, borders and the iconic pirate flag of the Tampa Bay Bucs logo in the center of the field.
On the third day, every painted surface will receive a second coat of paint, and the NFL shield is applied to the wild-card logo on game day (Sunday) to ensure its freshness.
Raymond James Stadiumâs turf has been replaced with new sod, specifically 419 Bermuda. It spans 65,000 square feet and is designed to withstand the playoff season.
Altman estimated that the field would require approximately 90 gallons of white paint, 65 to 70 gallons of red paint, 30 gallons of black paint and 15 gallons of gray paint for the task.
