Gillis first gained national attention when he was briefly hired as a cast member for “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) in 2019. However, he was fired within days after old podcast clips surfaced in which he made derogatory remarks. Although the controversy briefly derailed his career, Gillis has since rebuilt his standing in the comedy world.

Following his firing from SNL, Gillis focused on stand-up and released the hit specials “Shane Gillis: Live in Austin” in 2021 and “Beautiful Dogs” in 2023. Gillis is also known for co-hosting the “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” and for his role in the Netflix series “Tires,” a show he co-created and stars in.
