FREELANDVILLE â Kellie Streeter has filed her candidacy for the Republican nomination for Indiana State Representative, District 45, which represents all of Greene and Sullivan Counties, and portions of Daviess, Knox and Vigo Counties.
In a news release, Streeter said she looks forward to sharing her experience advocating for Southwest Indiana communities on the campaign trail as she seeks to represent the district at the Statehouse.
âIt is official â I am running for the Indiana House of Representatives,â Streeter said in the release. âAs Knox County Commissioner for eight years and now the President of the Indiana County Commissioners, I have worked to represent rural Southwest Indiana at our Capitol with a strong conservative voice. My family and I now feel that the time has come for me to seek elected office for House District 45.â
In the release, Streeter said she will focus her campaign on advocating for solutions to the challenges that directly affect the quality of life of communities and families in Southwest Indiana. Specifically, Streeter promises to be an advocate for local control, infrastructure funding, and accessible healthcare. Additionally, as a proven conservative, Streeter will work to keep our taxes low, ensure our state government spends within its means, and that the education system works for all families.
âAs a strong Republican leader in Knox County for the past eight years, I have a proven track record of finding ways to work with all elected officials, not for profit groups, businesses and individuals, no matter their political affiliations,â Streeter said in the release. âIt is about finding solutions for the people we serve, not personal opinions and agendas. I am the woman to get that job done!â
As Commissioner, Streeter has worked to build partnerships with municipalities within the county and work collaboratively with the County Council. First caucused into the office in 2016, Streeter was the first female Commissioner in Knox County. She has been recognized as 5 under 40 by Knox County Chamber of Commerce in 2021 and in 2023 she was awarded by Indiana County Commissioners the County Commissioner Legislative Award for her work at the Statehouse on behalf of Counties.
âI want to bring current, relevant experience and positive solutions to the Indiana Statehouse by running for this office,â Streeter said in the release. âI have always been very concerned about providing support to all our public safety partners, protecting our agriculture assets, blight elimination through unsafe building and property cleanup enforcement, and ensuring that our economy continues to flourish by working with the coal, healthcare and private industries. I have worked with cities and towns to forge strong partnerships for growth in our parks, EMS and small businesses. I have worked very hard to upgrade Knox County roads and bridges with the largest investments ever made.â
Streeter is the full-time Administrator of the Daviess County Health Department and the President of the Knox County Board of Commissioners, and the current President of the Indiana County Commissioners Association. Originally from rural Kentucky, Streeter has made Southwest Indiana her home. She resides in Freelandville, where her three children, Beau, Allie, and Tucker, attend or have graduated from North Knox Schools.
The Republican Primary will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
