The chief executive of Lambethcouncil has been charged with drug and drink driving offences after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car accident.
Bayo Dosunmu was arrested on Sunday in central London, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
The 46-year-old, from Hammersmith, is accused of failing to stop after a road accident, being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possession of class A drugs and driving without insurance.
He was charged on Monday and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 1.
Dosunmu receives a salary of around £185,000 a year as boss of the Labour-run local authority, plus an extra payment for acting as the borough’s returning officer during elections.
A Lambeth council spokesman said: “Lambeth Council chief executive Bayo Dosunmu is currently away from work and the council has put in place interim leadership arrangements.
“We are unable to make any further comment due to an ongoing police investigation.”
A Met Police spokesman said: “Bayo Dosunmu, 46, of Hammersmith was arrested on Sunday, June 23 in the Westminster area. He was charged on Monday, June 24. He will
appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 1.”
Dosunmu was appointed the town hall chief executive in 2022 having previously acted as Lambeth’s deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services.
He moved to the borough in 2019 after working as executive director at Homes England and assistant chief executive at the Homes and Communities Agency.
Previously he served at a senior level in a range of civil service roles including for the Welsh Government and the Olympic Delivery Authority.
