Mańosa, these structures are ultra-
modern, functiona, and
aesthetically sound
Globalization threatens
Philippine architecture by
bringing designs made
by foreign architects
On Philippine contemporary
literature, eminent scholar and
writer Roland Tolentino
describes that the Filipino
writing in today’s world
contains the diasporic
experience and the
incorporation of both rural and
urban experience.
Contemporary Filipino writers
are continuing to struggle with
low readership among the
public and domination of
foreign titles in market.
Despite the odds,
contemporary Filipino writers
continue to write without fail.

literature.
Contemporary Philippines theater is
still alive despite the dominance of
televisions, movies, and the
Internet. There are stage
productions from university-based
theater groups to major theater
companies. The Tanghalang Pilipino
and the Philippine Educational
Theater Association (PETA) annually
stage memorable production.
PETA- founded by Cecile
Guidote-Alvarez (1967). It
advocates the use of Filipino
theater in inspiring change
and development in society
Tanghalang Pilipino(1987)- a
resident drama company of
Cultural Center of the
Philippines(CCP).Tanghalang
Pilipino continues to push
Philippine theater to artistic
and professional excellence
through the development and
education of actors, writers,
directors, and technical staff.
 Other Theater Groups- There are still
more theater companies in the
Philippines. These include the
Gantimpala Theater Foundation,
Ballet Philippines, and private
companies such as 9Works Theatrical,
Atlantis Productions, Repertory
Philippines,and Concertus
Manila.Universities have their own
theater companies such as Dulaang
UP(UP Diliman), Ateneo Blue
Repertory(ADMU), and Teatro
Tomasito(UST)
 Virgin
Labfest(2004)- a
playwright’s
festival of untried,
untested, and
unpublished play.
• Visual Arts- The new breed of
contemporary Filipino visual
artist is becoming bold
regarding the expression of
personal feelings and
perspective. Annual art
competitions also play an
important role in encouraging
emerging artists to create
and produce their works.
• The Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. has
been recognizing young talents in the
visual arts for almost half a century.Some
notable workarts from this competition are
Child trafficking by Leomar C.
Cornejos,Juan’s Struggle sa Mundong
Nobody’s Perfect by Ferd Angelo A. Failano,
Tragic Bangus by Rene S.
Sibulangcal(digital art), and Bandilang Di
Tumutumba by Melvin G. Anglaser. These
works of art are reflection of social and
environmental issues.
Art is a national heritage that is
essential in building the nation
and ensuring democracy. The art
forms remind people of the
origins, histories, struggles, and
triumphs of the nation. Art gives
citizens consciousness and pride
that is necessary for nation-
building.
Executive Order No. 118 created
the Presidential Commission on
Culture and the Arts in 1987, Five
years later, Republic act 7356
established the National
Commission for Culture and the
Arts (NCCA)
National Commission for
Culture and the Arts(NCCA)

- the NCCA is the country’s “overall policy


making body, coordinating, and grants giving
agency for preservation, development and
promotion of Philippine arts and culture. The
creation of NCCA serves as the state’s initiative
to promote and develop art and culture
awareness in the country. There re six arts and
cultureal government agencies under NCCA.

The class will be grouped into 6. Each groups will


be assigned with one commission/agency under
NCCA. The learners will do their research
regarding the functions, mission, vision, and
other information about their assigned topic.
Each group will make a hand made infographic
posters through drawing, calligraphy, painting,
collage and others and present it to the class.

1.Cultural Center of the Philippines(CCP)

For almost 50 years, CCP has been serving as the


premier venue in the Philippines for culture and arts.
It is ahome of nine artistic resident companies such as
the National Music Competition for Young
Foundation( NAMCYA), Ballet Philippines, Philippine
Madrigal Singers, Philippine Ballet Theatre, UST
Symphony Orchestra, Tanghalang Pilipino, Bayanihan
Philippine National Folk Dance Company, and Ramon
Obusan Folkloric Group. These companies regularly
stage productions, conduct workshops, and provide
outreach to the community

Commission of the Philippines
(NHCP)

The NHCP was created with a


vision of “A Filipino society with
citizens informed of their
history, who love their country
and are proud of their cultural
heritage.
3. National Museum of the Philippines

Located at the heart of Manila, the National


Museum of the Philippines is the country’s
repository of archaeological artifacts,
national treasures, and rare specimen found
and produced in the country. Perhaps the
most valuable artwork housed in the National
Museum is Juan Luna’s opus “Spolarium”.It is
the largest paiting in the Philippines(4.22 m.x
7.675m); it is a winning masterpiece at the
Exposition de Bellas Artes Madrid,Spain, in
1884.
4. National Library of the Philippines
(NLP)

The official national Library of the


Philippines.

The home of the original copies of


the defining works of Jose Rizal: Noli
Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo and Mi
ultimo adios.
5. The National Archives of the
Philippines

An agency of the Republic of the


Philippines mandated to collect, store,
preserve, and make available archival
records of the Government and other
primary sources pertaining to the history
and development of the country. It is
tasked to formulate and implement the
records schedule and vital records
protection programs for the government.
6. Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF)

The KWF or the Commission on the Filipino


Language was created via Republic Act No.
7104:”Congress shall establish a national
language commission composed
representatives of various regions and
disciplines which shall undertake, coordinate
and promote researches for the development
and propagation, and preservation of Filipino
and other Philippine language.
