• It is an association that consists of Filipino


writers in European countries.

• The group formed in the late 19th century


THE PURPOSE OF INDIOS BRAVOS:
• They wanted people to be aware of the cruel and
terrible treatment of those Spaniards towards their
fellow Filipinos by writing poems, stories and
newspaper articles showing the current condition of
the Philippines in the hands of the Spaniards and friars.
THE PURPOSE OF INDIOS BRAVOS:

• Its other goal is for every Filipino to have an education


and the likes of Rizal to grant reforms from Spain.
HOW WAS THE GROUP FORMED WITH THE NAME LOS INDIOS
BRAVOS?
• Known as a pre-Katipunan organization whose name Rizal took from the spectacle of Native
Americans performing in a Wild West show.

• During the 1889 Paris World Expo, the performance of the American Indians
drew cheers of “Indians brave! Indians brave!” from the French crowds, and stirred the
sense of national pride in Rizal.

• Rizal met with his Filipino friends in Paris and proposed the creation of an organization to be called
Los Indios Bravos.

• Rizal Proclaimed: “Let us wear the name indio as our badge of racial pride! Let us make
the Spaniards revise their concept of the indio—we shall become Indios Bravos!”
INDIOS BRAVOS REPLACED THE EMPHERAL KIDLAT CLUB

• The KIDLAT CLUB established by Rizal in 1889 , was an informal social club. and
It lacked the formal structure while INDIOS BRAVOS had a clear mission and
goals centered around promoting Filipino pride.
KEY FIGURES BEHIND INDIOS BRAVOS:

1. Jose Rizal
- The foremost leader and intellectual driving force. He inspired many
through his novels “ Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo”.

2. Marcelo H. Del Pilar


- A journalist and lawyer; Editor of the news paper “La Solidaridad”.
3. Graciano Lopez Jaena
- An orator and journalist who was one of the founders of the
Propaganda movement.
4. Mariano Ponce
- A physician , writer and active member of the propaganda
movement. Ponce was responsible for publishing and editing
numerous articles and works that promoted Filipino nationalism.
5. Antonio Luna
-Known for his fiery articles in “La Solidaridad” and his contributions
to the military strategies during the Philippine contributions.
6. Jose Ma. Panganiban
- A writer and linguist; contributed articles to ‘La
Solidaridad” and work closely with other members to
promoted the cause of Philippine Independence.
7. Juan Luna
- A reowned painter and political activist. His famous
painting “spolarium” won international acclaim and was
seen as an allegory of the Filipino struggle against
oppression.
ACTIVITY

1. Historical Role Playing: Divide students into 2 groups and assign each students
to role play key figures in the Indios Bravos such as Jose Rizal, Marcelo H. Del
pilar, Graciano Lopez Jaena and other prominent members.

Objectives: Students will research their assign figures and present their
contributions, perspectives and experiences within the group. This helps bring
historical characters in life and fosters a deeper understanding of their motivations
and actions.
