• What did we study last week?
• What is recruitment?
• Recruitment refers to the process of identifying, attracting,
interviewing, selecting, hiring and onboarding employees. In other
words, it involves everything from the identification of a staffing need
to filling it.
• Depending on the size of an organization, recruitment is the
responsibility of a range of workers. Larger organizations may have
entire teams of recruiters, while others only a single recruiter.
WHAT DOES RECRUITMENT INVOLVE?
• While the recruitment process is unique to each organization, there are
15 essential steps of the hiring process.
• Identify the hiring need
• Devise a recruitment plan
• Write a job description
• Advertise the position
• Recruit the position
• Review applications
• Phone Interview/Initial Screening
• Interviews
• Applicant Assessment
• Background Check
• Decision
• Reference Check
• Job offer
• Hiring
• Onboarding
RECRUITMENT SOURCES
• Recruitment sources are the platforms employers may use to attract
and hire suitable candidates for vacant positions. There are a vast
range of sources of recruitment, and many employers use several
methods. The most appropriate way to source potential employees
often depends on the nature of the business and the type of
professional they're looking for.
IMPORTANCE OF USING DIFFERENT
SOURCEST6U
• Using various sources is beneficial for organisations, as they can reach
a wider pool of candidates. This is particularly important when the
organisation is hiring for multiple positions. Using a range of sources
means greater exposure for the organisation. This increases the
likelihood of finding a suitable candidate for the job vacancy.
STEPS IN RECRUITING THE PERFECT
CANDIDATE
• Finding the perfect candidate is not as easy as posting jobs online and
reviewing resumes. It can be a full-time job for the hiring manager,
which is why many people outsource the process to recruiters and
other types of staffing or placement services. There are several
essential steps, including.

INTERNAL VS EXTERNAL HIRING
• |What do you think is the difference?
INTERNAL SOURCES
• Internal hiring is the promotion of existing employees into new roles. It
transitions their skills from their current level and builds trust as they
see you invested in their career growth. It is also generally easier to
hire someone externally for lower-level positions. You also have the
advantage of not having to train the employee you’re promoting on the
company culture or workstyle in your office. They won’t bring bad
habits to the table and you already know how they think and work.
Internal recruiting sources come in two main forms.
• Promotions
• Referrals
EXTERNAL SOURCES
• When it comes to external sources for hiring, there may be infinite
ways to source for new candidates, but we do find that most companies
pick just a few and stick to them. However, this can limit the size of the
pool over time as you continually return to the same sources and find
fewer qualified individuals.
• What are some of the most common external sources recruiting
sources?
• Traditional sources for businesses and hiring managers include:
• Employment agencies or recruiters
• Advertising on job boards
• Job fairs
STAGES IN RECRUITMENT
• Stage 1 - Identify the vacancy. ...
• Stage 2 - Carry out a job analysis. ...
• Stage 3 - Create a job description. ...
• Stage 4 - Create a person specification. ...
• Stage 5 - Advertise the job. ...
• Stage 6 - Send out application forms or request CVs.
IDENTIFY THE VACANCIES
• Vacancies can become available in a business when someone leaves,
when someone moves job leaving their own role unfilled. These
vacancies are for existing roles and are therefore easily identified.
• When a business grows or changes there may be more or completely
new jobs need to be carried out. It may be less clear what these
vacancies are.
UNDERTAKE JOB ANALYSIS
• When a vacancy becomes available in an organisation it is important
that the tasks and skills required for the position are identified. This is
known as a job analysis.
• A job analysis is important as it can be used to identify whether a
vacancy needs to be filled or whether the tasks and duties can be
redistributed to other staff. It is used to help write the job description
and person specification.
CREATE JOB DESCRIPTIONS
• A job description is a document that states the tasks and responsibilities of the
job. It contains information on:
• duties
• pay
• location
• hours
• conditions of work
• This sets out clearly expectations for whoever applies to fill the vacancy.
CREATE PERSON SPECIFICATION
• A person specification is a document that states the skills and
qualifications needed to do the job. These skills and qualities can be
listed as either essential or desirable. This will provide a series of
measures against which the organisation can judge people who might
take on the vacancy.

SEND OUT APPLICATION FORMS OR REQUEST CVS
• Application forms are sent out to candidates who wish to apply for the
position. Or alternatively a curriculum vitae (CV) will be requested.
• Application forms consist of pre-prepared questions set by the
organisation. This allows an organisation to easily compare potential
candidates. It also ensures the organisations get all the information
they require from the candidate.
• Curriculum vitae (CVs) are prepared by the candidate and are a
summary of the person’s education, qualifications and previous
employment history.
