• The great plebeian- plebeian means, a
member of the general citizenry in ancient
rome as opposed to the privelleged
patrician class.
• Born in Tondo on November 30, 1863, the
first child of poor parents.
• He supported his siblings by selling
bamboo canes and paper fans in the city
streets.
• He also worked as a warehouse keeper in a
mosaic tile factory in Sta. Mesa.
• He worked first as a messenger and was
promoted as an agent in Fleming and
• He started his education in the school of Guillermo
Osmeña, a private primary school in Tondo.
• He educated himself by extensive reading of good
books and learning Spanish by self-study.

the Nation”
• July 7, 1892- first established in the Philippines as a
revolutionary secret society.

• It gave significance to the struggle of the nation for
independence during Spain colonization.

Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Ladislao Diwa, Deodato

KKK OBJECTIVES

POLITICAL
• The political goal was to completely separate the Philippines
from Spain after declaring the country’s independence.

MORAL
• The moral goal was to teach the Filipinos good
manners, cleanliness, hygiene, fine morals, and
how to guard themselves against religious
fanaticism.
CIVIC
• The civic goal was to encourage Filipinos to help
themselves and to defend the poor oppressed.
RECRUITMENT METHODS
• Hasik- ‘ triangle” method
• Members were to recruit two new adherents( who would
not know each other but only the original member who
took him in), this building a network of “triangle”. This
was to ensure that growth would be descreet, while at
the same time ensure that the new recruits would
closely adhere to the principles of the Katipunan.
Two- Tier Sangunian Structure
• The tringle method provided for slow growth. Around
october 1892, it was decided that members would be
allowed to recruit as many as they could.
MEMBERSHIP
• KATIPON- MEMBER
• OUTFIT: black hood with a triangle of
white ribbon having the letters "Z. Ll. B."
• PASSWORD: anak ng bayan

• MONTHLY DUES: one real fuerte( old


money), or 12.5 centimos, or 20 cuartos

having white lines and the letters

green ribbon with a medal, with the
letter K in the ancient tagalog script
inscribed in the middle.

Emilio jacinto
• Author of kartilya ng Katipunan
• His full name- Emilio Jacinto y Dizon
• Bron on December 15, 1875 in tondo
manila and died on April 16, 1899
• Emilio received a good education, and
was fluet in both tagalog and Spanish
• He did not finsh college and, at the
age of 18, joined the secret society
called Katipunan (KKK)
• Jacinto became the secretary, directly reporting to
the leader of the Katipunan. He also became the
chief ad isor on fiscal matters concerning this
secret society.
• Jacinto wrote for the official Katipunan newspaper,
the KALAYAAN. He wrote in the newspaper under
the pen name DIMASILAW, and in the Katipunan he
was called PINGKIAN.
• Despite his young age of just 21, Jacinto became a
general in the group's guerrilla army, taking an
active role in the fight against the Spanish near

SIGNIFICANCE
• The Kartilya ng Katipunan is a document that served as
a guidebook for the Katipunan, a Philippine
revolutionary society aiming for independence from
Spanish rule in the late 19th century. Consequently, it
outlined the moral values and principles that Katipunan
members were expected to follow, including:
• Love for the Philippines
• Compassion for others
• Honesty
• Discipline
• Unity
