PHILIPPINE VISUAL ART
Visual arts in the Philippines can be characterized as a mixture of
western and native cultural influences. When Spaniards invaded the
country ,
First national artist in visual arts is Ferrnando Armosolo also known
as Grand Old Man of the Philippines Art.

The friars were the ones who introduced the western styles of
painting and carving, in which the theme was mainly religious.

Some contemporary visual artists have been educated and trained


abroad, introducing in the country different movements in the world
of arts.

From the masterpieces of Juan Luna and Felix Resurrection Hidalgo


to the modern pieces of Ben Cab. 21st century Filipino Visual artist
have embraced native forms and themes as well as foreign styles and
technique.
